Those fines are only for those really bad drivers that have 8 points or more on their license or they commit a serious offense (DUI, etc). It will not effect the average person that gets an occcasional ticket.

I spoke with my rep about it and he said that they had two options for transportation funding this year. First was to raise the gas tax to cover road repairs, which in the end, hits everyone equal; second was to levy a tax on speeders and law breakers, which basically boils down to a sin tax. He also said that they are drafting an amendment next year that will allow this to count against out of state drivers also. - Ron

How does a tax on home sales relate to highway construction?
In addition, this legislation adds another layer of bureaucracy - and we really need that . . . NOT!.
The simple and equitable way to finance highways is to obtain the money from the folks who use them. The simple and equitable way to do that is to slightly increase the gas tax. There is already a system to collect that money. It's easy, simple and logical. I guess that's why our legislators couldn't agree on it.
They were so reluctant to increase taxes that they called it another name, and didn't think we would recognize it as taxation. We're not that stupid. Here's my suggestion to the legislature: Don't give me a shovel of horsebleep and tell me there must be a pony around here somewhere.Jack

new laws
yesterday I recieved a notice from dmv stating that due to the new laws I have to certify that my vechile is a antique. I have to state so in front of a notary and mail it back to them with a $50.00 fee. If I fail to do so then I will lose my antique tags and not be able to obtain any more for 5 years. This is out of control.

Sounds like another good way for the state to generate 50 bucks from each owner of antique tags..... Might be for finding out who the clowns were that enacted such a ridiculous law and do something about making sure they are unemployed after the next election!!!! No government has any more power then the voters allow them to have.......Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

An artilcle today in the Washington Post shows the power of the voter on this issue:
An online petition against Virginia's steep new "abusive driver" fees—some of which can top $1,000—neared 100,000 signatures, accelerating lawmakers' calls for the General Assembly to rescind them before voters go to the polls Nov. 6. Many lawmakers say they are being deluged with comments from constituents opposed to the fees, which are aimed at drunk and reckless drivers.
If only our hobby could get such a response, maybe states wouldn't be rushing to crush vintage tin.Bob

Dave,
Not only did they add the cert for Antiques, but the fee for "investigation" when you apply for a VIN went from $30.00 to $130.00. They're just sticking it to us.
Then DMV Wonk 1.0 tells me I have to apply for the VIN, then apply for the title. I do than, and my app is rejected because DMV Wonk 1.1 says I have to apply for both the VIN and title at the same time. We'll see what Wonk 1.2 says in a few days.

I have learned from here in cali to have money and more paper work than needed, soo when baffoon #___ sayes you need this or do this ,I have more than enuff papers to make it happen, because baffoon #___ will say the complete opposite of baffoon #__.
I just walk up and say this is what I have and let them tell me what to do ,even if I have been told I do not need it
It also seems like every office has different rule books
So I just take the paper work from the last dmv and move on to the next one and I can usually get er done in one day The next dmv will try to prove there knowledge of the rules by getting one more thing done or....just taking all of the previouse paper work and handing you one paper and your done..Last edited by shawnlee28; 07-17-2007 at 11:34 AM.
