Asking too much?
I just have a general question here guys, and im seeking advice. And no im not secretly trying to get more publicity to the truck. Here it goes... Im tryin to sell this 55 Chevy pickup for a friend and i asked $1,000. Now i have NO idea on how much these trucks actually go for or what people look for in them, but ive had 50 views since yesterday morning and no one has even made a slight nibble. Now granted it may seem that im being impatient, but im really not. Im just asking all the hot rod guys to tell me if were asking TOO much for it so maybe people aren't even considering it?
And truth be told, i don't want to sell this thing for my buddy, id swoop this thing up in a heartbeat if i had any place to put it. Ive been in love with these trucks since i can remember and its always been a dream to build one, and now im "this close" to having one and im trying to sell it !! Every time i go over there i go back behind the garage and stare at it and do the typical hot rodder walk around and look at the problem areas and imagine what kinda motor i could throw in it or how it would look all shaved and laid out... kinda tugs at the heart strings to know its leaving you know
Heres the link to the truck http://www.clubhotrod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32293
And well i guess that ends my rant for the day. Back to the daily grind...

I can only give my own perception, but the fact that it looks so incomplete is probably keeping offers down, and the visible rust doesn't help. I've rebuilt worse projects, but many enthusiasts are not as determined, and will look for a more solid and complete truck.

Have a little patience. Been barely 24 hours since you posted it. Trucks are popular, so someone is bound to want it. I think your price is a good starting point I would give it at least 2 weeks before making adjustments. Also find more free sites to post it at to give maximum exposure.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Having been a member of the forum since day two my affinity for the site is clear. That being said, this likely isn't the best place for a classified; good, yes, best, no. While we have over 21k members usually "only" 3 to 400 come on in a typcal day. Members are from all around the world, much less all around North America, and the odds of your having an interested buyer hit in the first day are VERY low. This site is more geared for information sharing rather than commerce, the classified section is intended as a secondary convenience to the membership.
For an item as you've listed transportation costs can kill all the "good deal" in it, so likely your best prospect is someone geographically near the vehicle. That means maybe somewhere around 10 people a day on here live close enough, and the odds of all of them being interested in that particular vehicle on any given day are very low.
As mentioned above, be patient, someone may come along here and be your ideal prospect, but if it were me, I'd continue to post as many places as I could, and on sites that are more oriented to selling than any other purpose.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

I guess this truck is one of these projects that you "dont have time for, but dont want to get rid of". So the desire to sell is there, but its not beating on the door you know.
And i appreciate the advice. As i said originally, im tryin to sell this for a friend who doesnt spend much time online. I however read up on as much info on everything as i possible can. Ive been coming onto this forum for awhile now, and finally registered a few months ago. The wealth of information that ive gathered here is incredible. Now i just need to get off my rear and build one of my 3 projects not including my daily driver which is a rolling peoject. But i have one of the oldest hot rodder curses known to man... No space to do it in, and no $ to do it with.

Bob makes a very valid point. I agree that this forum is one of the best, but as a marketing tool it won't have the wide exposure of something like Ebay.
Here is what I would do. I would clean it up a little and put it on Ebay. The body actually looks solid, but that surface rust makes it look worse than it is. While you don't want to be deceptive and cover up rust with primer, I would at least clean up some of the bigger areas and spray a little primer on them to keep it from getting worse. If you do it with a darker primer, at least people will know you aren't trying to hide those spots under an inch of primer.
Then I would run it on Ebay, with a starting price of $ 100 to get people moving. Set your reserve at what you are willing to take, run it for 5 days so the last day ends up being Sunday evening about 8 PM, and say it is for local pickup only. It will cost you something like $ 40 if it doesn't sell, and only about twice that if it does, but it is the best way to move something like this.
Oh, my title would read 1955, 55 CHEVY PROJECT TRUCK, HOT RAT ROD, CHICAGO. The reason is that whatever key words someone types in, they will have a chance of seeing your truck, and the hot rat rod thing is because those words are very popular search words these days. I also put in the city because it will let people in your area know this is right in their back yard.
If the truck has a good title, mention that........big selling point. Oh, and get some air in the tires and pull it out of the weeds onto a flat surface like a driveway before you take more pictures.

I've seen similar looking trucks on oldride.com for near $3,000. I think $3k is a bit stiff but take a look ..................

In my time here, I don't recall seeing a member buy a car from another member. Some parts have changed hands, but that's about it. As the others have said, not a lot of buying and selling action here on CHR... Ebay is on it's usual summer drought, but that truck should fetch a thousand. Good pics and an honest description usually do the best on there...Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Yeah io hear ya on the EBAY thing, but im just kind opf partial to stuff goin to local people or at least someone i can meet face to face and get cash in hand rather than relying on the internet.
BTW, tomorrow i have a shop teacher from the local highschool coming to look at it. I think he will buy it as a project for his shop class. Im going to see if anyone has any parts laying around to donate to the school.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
