California rodders.........time for action......
Okay guys, the nut jobs in Sacramento are at it again!!!

While you can whine about it here, the more important thing to do is as the article asks. Don't expect somebody else to carry your water for you or fall victim to the "gee, there's nothing I can do about it" disease. Get your own butt, and butts of your buddy's in gear and flood these clowns with contacts that let them know just how big a voting block car enthusiasts represent. The rest of us are counting on you........seems that any nutty idea started in Cali spreads like a cancer to the rest of the country.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Damn!! Glad I don't live in CA. But as you stated, it could happen any place if gone unchallenged. Lot of rodders and custom car people in CA, they need to get organized and fight this thing right now, before it bites every one in the butt. We need more street rodding and collector car legislators.Bob

If memory serves me correctly Ca. started smog controls in '61. It ruined a 292 in a '57 Ford Custom that my dad got for me when I came back to the states in '64.
A guy I worked with at Douglas Aircraft said it best, "As long as we have a smog board, we'll have smog".Ken Thomas

Remember everybody, as goes California so goes the rest, eventually. it is the testing bed for constrictive and oppressive measures and sadly many states just wait around for the people here to lose rights so they can take them away from their residents.

Apparently they are still exempting older than 75, but I am going to write a letter anyways, I think it is the wrong way to approach the smog problem in our state.

Am I too thick to understand this bill or what?
It says that California passed a law in 2004 requiring testing of all cars 1967 and newer, so what does this new law accomplish?
Is it to fund a scrappage program, or does it somehow supercede the 2004 law somehow?
Sorry, sometimes I'm a little slow!!!

We've said it before, the handwriting is on the wall...........the days of the modified car are severely threatened. As Bob said, what happens in California takes a few years, but eventually happens across the country.........I've seen it with laws and fads.
"What luck for the Rulers that men do not think."
(Quote from Adolf Hitler)
"All propaganda must be so popular and on such an intellectual level, that even the most stupid of those toward whom it is directed will understand it... Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way around, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise."
(also from Adolf Hitler)

Don, those quotes apply today and especially to the idiots in Ca. that let the "leaders' get away with such nonsense.Ken Thomas

OK, sent an e-mail to each legislator on the list. In California we have been subjected to many of these smog rules, many of which cost the taxpayers big bucks but did nothing to reduce pollution. I remember the first one I got bit by but had no choice, was capping off the vacuum advance???? How does that reduce emissions???? As I recall, that cost me $30.00. In the world of custom, classic cars California rules are definitely not leading the nation.

Yeah, if I saw them stranded beside the road, I would simply wave, and go on by. And if there was a puddle of water, I would make sure I hit it on the way by.
Damn nice of you Denny! I'd be more inclined to open the passenger side door and give them a whack they soon wouldn't forget.Bob

Thanks for the alert Bob, I sent my letters and also joined the SAN. Something we should all do. It's not just in CA.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

It was originally suppose to be a rolling {keeps moving forward} 20 years and newer gets tested, but was stalled out at 1976 as a begining year and did not roll forward past there.
According to the original bill 1987 and older should be exempt under the rolling 20 year bill, but are not.
The wording on this new one looks like only 15 year old and newer gets tested?????
Under current standards 1976 and older are exempt and under the new bill it appears they still are exempt. No change there ,that only leaves just testing 15 year and newer cars ............ ?
Looks like it could be change for the better if thats the case. Its gunna take longer than u thought and its gunna cost more too(plan ahead!)
