looking to have a 32 highboy built
Guys, I am looking to have a 32 Roadster highboy built. I am looking for a builder in Northern CA so I dont have to travel to far to see progress.I also dont want to spend an arm and a leg for the car. I am looking for a nice driver/local show car. Do you know any small builders that are somewhat inexpensive but do a good job. Thanks

Well, your looking at, 30-50 k easy. I do know that there are builders that do packages, rather than to order cars, you can choose the colors, out of colors they have picked for that set price, just check your yellow pages, there's got to to be 1 local to you, or within an hour's drive. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

I doubt if 50K would get a decent build today. 30 certainly won't.Jack

there is a place around here that advertises in the newspapers, they do those deals where you choose the color of the car, and they build that car, almost as a production, I think the price for a '32 roadster was like 35k, I have no idea on the build quality. With a decent body alone running about $13,000 I don't see it ither, but that's what was advertised. Speedways signature all steel '32 highboy is $49k, w/o motor or trans, repaint by a local shop and an engine install by a local mechanic, would set it apart from the other speedway
'32's out there, cause there all red.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

You might also want to check eBay, Craig's list, and other ads for cars in your area. There are a lot of projects out there that get started, then the builder gives up on them because of lack of interest, money, or knowledge.... It will take a bit of searching, but could definitely save a lot of money....
I would check with some of the Hot Rodders and Car Clubs in your area, I would imagine they would have a lot of good information on who to talk to and who to stay away from. Whoever you decide on, don't proceed until you check some references, speak with the builder in person, and see some of his finished cars. At the same time, don't think the builder with the biggest and fanciest shop is the best. Often the small guy who builds one or two cars a year for customers will offer better pricing and take a lot more interest in the quality of the build... Sometimes the big shops consider your car as just another car and their job is something to do until something better comes along!!!

I agree with all of the above. Around here(esp. the bay area you are going to pay a premium to get something that meets what you described. I'd look out of state, and ebay / craigslist for the car that meets what your looking for, that someone else needs to sell now. After all a plane ticket just about anywhere in the US is going to be cheaper by a long shot then the Bay Area Markup tax that you'll pay. Plus with the money you save, you can get it repainted or upholstered to your tastes, and still not wait two years for someone to make it for you! Fixing a used well built car may be a lot cheaper than building a new car with an iffy less expensive builder!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

better off to buy used. You will get more car for close to what you want to pay.
It will most certainly cost mor eto build then buy. Plenty of good deals out there
