    Trade ?

My buddy has a 32 5 window chevy. From what i was told tonight it is sitting on 32 ford rails, i believe it has a bbc in it also, its not done ,still needs lots of work , but the body looks solid from the pics ive seen ( im going to look at it tomorrow). If you were me, would you trade my merc for it? The only hesitation i have is, if i trade then with my current lack of spare funds, it will be a couple more years before i have a running rod again, but a car i will be happier with in the long run. My ? is do you guys think i am getting screwed on this deal, as far as the monetary value of these two cars. I know 32 chevies are not as desirable to most as a 32 ford, but they look the same to me almost, i just like the style of that era cars.

If you helped Pops drink some of that chardonnay he's hittin' on tonight they'll look exactly the same and the deal will seem sweeter.

In the end it is, of course, your call. If the car is better than the one you have, workmanship wise, driveability, performance, features, that sort of stuff then it would be a good deal. If it lacks as much function and style I'd pass until something better comes along. My guess is there'll be lots of opportunities in the short term future.

I figured out a long time ago that were not into this hobby to make money. If you like the car, do it, you can always build another one later if it doesn't work out.

Im not looking to make money, i just do not want my judgement to be clouded by my excitment over this car. When you really want something humans tend to make bad decisions.

It's amazing how fast a whole bottle of Chardonnay can go away when you really put your mind to it.

John, it really depends on what turns you on. Are you a Merc kind of guy or a hot rod kind of guy? For me the choice would be simple, I like hot rods with no fenders, for you it might be a different deal altogether. What do you REALLY like?

Some people turn over their cars every year or so..........me, I hang onto them forever. How would YOU feel if your Merc were going down the road to someone else? Only you can answer that question.

With the current thinking that a car doesn't have to be 100% painted and upholstered to be cool, maybe you could make that coupe drivable in less time than you think, with a lot less expenditure.

(hey, not bad logic for a guy who just killed a quart of wine all by himself, huh???)

I think I will try Don's theory the nest big decision I have to make
I Agree with everyone else, I would base my final decision on Quality of the two cars, then what I really want when I'm done, and more importantly I always let things sit for a couple of days before I decide.

Well, here are the pics I just took of the chevy. I WANT IT!! The frame appears to be a Chassis Performance or TPI performance frame, 454 Hi Perf roller block, body looks pretty solid too.

Actually if it were me, I'd take the deal. About 10 years ago I passed on a 31 roadster body, less the floor, that was for sale for $850. I wasn't sure at the time if I wanted to invest that much time in building (and rebuilding) a roadster. Kicked myself many times since. Couldn't even buy fenders for that price let alone the a body including the windshield posts and a rumble seat. Took me a long time to get over that mistake (at least I think I'm over it )

Looks to me like you getting most of the really important parts, so even with out a huge infusion of money, you should be able to make good progress on getting it to the road.

Yeah thats what i was thinking after i looked at it today, a little wiring and some brake work and it would drive. I heard the engine run, cranked right up. The way i see it is the chassis and drivetrain are worth more than i have in my car, so imo i think im getting a good deal. Now i just have to wait for the deal to work, my buddy is haggling with another guy, trying to work out a three way trade, so hopefully by next week ill have it.

The deal fell thru, the third party in the mix backed out, so looks like im out of luck, Which really sucks, i wanted that car bad!The deal was i was trading my car to another guy , who had a harley, that the guy with the coupe wants, but now the guy does not want to trade the harley, and the guy with the coupe, is where i got my car from, so he does not want it back. So it looks like im stuck with the merc.

I think it was a blessing and was never meant to be. You know, like putting a Chevy body on a perfect good Ford frame.
