I had my old Vette up to 150 on the I-44 toll road. It was the wee hours of the morning and I hadn't seen a car in a long time so I thought I'd step up the speed a little to make some time on my way home on leave. I kept going up and up finally just ended up punching it. It pulled pretty good all the way up to 150 on that cheezy night rider digital dash. I was bored. It didn't feel like a big deal really till I saw deer eyes reflecting off the side of the road. I rolled her on back to 70 and minded my manners the rest of the trip constanly on the lookout for deer. That could've gotten real ugly.

Never had a really fast car and a place to open it up. I hit went just over 115 on my 88 Kawi Vulcan 750. I probably could have squeezed a bit more out of it but had a headwind. I was wearing a brain bucket and didn't have chaps on, after remembering that in the country those farmers run stop signs sometimes I backed it down. great run though, can't wait to get another bike.

My earlier post did not include my bike days. I had a '73 Kawa Z1 that I had up to 135, with plenty of power for more (bike power, not will power). Also still have two 1975 Gold Wngs (1000cc's), one of which I had over 120, again with more capability still left. Both bikes could go much faster than my nerves could muster.
As much as I loved riding, I now love rodding. Don't think I will ever get back to riding again. Too many cars driven by idiots out on the roads now, especially the roads I travel.Bob

No fare, you've all had some pretty fast cars. The only fast cars we had back in school did not have speedos, and the ones that did had, had gears and trans changed from abuse and speedos where off, we did not care what the dial said only that if we were in front of the other car.
So how about a post on how slow have you gone at full open throtle?
I have been 45 MPH in a m37 dodge L6 with 5:38 gears.

Actually about a year ago on a test run I had my 34 pedal to the metal going uphill at a worrying speed of about 26 mph. Never found out why, cause after a few minor adjustments, on the next test ride everything was right. Worried me enough after the first ride that I got out the crate engine catalog.Bob

Ran my vette up to 140 once. It was still pulling pretty hard, but had to back off cause it was getting very scary. It felt like the front end was lifting off the ground. All I could think of was "you've got drum brakes dummy. if somebody pulls out in front of you..." When I let off the gas it started vibrating. I think every screw in the interior started backing out.

Had a '48 Dodge Power Wagon 4X4, drove it home 4 miles after retrieving it from the snowbank a buddy abandoned it in. I looked in the mirror as I turned in to my yard, and there was the tractor that had just pulled me up on the road,he was only a half a mile back! He could only go 14 MPH, for cryin' out loud! I thought I musta been in low range, but no, that was even slower.

....I had an old VW Bug that would do 65 on 3 cylinders in 3rd gear. Only 3 cylinders because it dropped a valve so I just took out both push rods & the spark plug in that cylinder. And 4th gear in the trans was blown. I finally blew the motor up when it ran out of oil..... The 60's were fun!

in 1992 my wife and i drove 130 mph for 15 minutes solid, at 2:00 A.M. on I65 in my wifes RS camaro. we were following a BMW and a crotch rocket. we only let off to take our exit to go home. abot 6 years ago my 80 z28 said 147flat out on a stretch of road behind my house. and if my dragster counts 173 MPH 3 inches off the ground, i think when you are that close to the ground it seems faster.

Well looks like we've had some fun with speeds My one wish before I die is to do 200 mph. Just hope I get the chance to do it.Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!
