Here's my barn find. Water had found it's way into # 5 and 7 due to the hood being off. The carb, intake and heads were really bad. So, I used oil and emery cloth to clean the rusty cylinders up. I did a valve job on another set of 283 heads, and used a 2bll and intake I had. I put in an old HEI and Alternator, and it runs great. I had to give $12,500 for it though. But, dump another 20 large on it and then sell it for $32,500.01!! Labor - Priceless!

When the hell did this take place? Collector Car Market Review puts a price of about 30 grand on it for a #2, 39K for a #1 but NADA shows more like 50K for "average retail."

    High Retail Value definition-
This vehicle would be in excellent condition overall. It could be a completely restored or an extremely well maintained original vehicle showing very minimal wear. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are not in need of reconditioning. The interior would be in excellent condition.

Price $73,700 and that's not considering the still higher values in the California market.

So what are you trying to say? The man enjoyed what he did and actually liked it. I'm confused. Or is this another HAMB?

I may not have been clear. What I meant to convey was that it could take another $20,000 to get the car up to a $30,000 price tag. Point being, that with the work and money to get a "Barn Find" up in the high dollar range, a guy would be lucky to break even!! But, IMO, the point is to drive it, right?

Here's a front curb find. My front curb this a.m. to be exact. Neihbor owns it and uses it as a daily driver.

What I'm asking is what year did drofdar do this car and sell it? If it was like2000 the price wasn't too bad but if it was last year he musta been asleep cause nobody nowhere is letting decent 57 Bel Air HTs go for low 30s prices.

Friend bought a 57 convertible end of 2004 for $35,000 which NADA shows high retail value of $125,000!

Today even a mid-range quality HT is valued at $50,400. I simply have to wonder why anyone would sell one of the most popular cars on the planet below established evaluations- IF the car was recently sold. If it was sold for $32,500, regardless of lost labor, in 2001 that's not bad.

Anyone that can get on a PC and diddle around here with us should be able to find the latest automotive valuation sources.
