I love it when people say how much hp they have
I bought a transmission yesterday from a guy that had an old k5 blazer that was tore up real bad, he said he had a 383 in it so i said lets hear it so he opened the hood and started it, maybe 175 horse if we was lucky with a cold breeze blowing in the air filtter, also i noticed it was a 400 block and the only way to get that is bore the block and run a 350 crank with an over size bore, destroked 377? after i noticed that he told me she runs around 450 horse , then he put it in gear to move the truck and id died and wouldnt start , maybe its from that high 7:1 compression then he told me about when he takes it to the drag strip and puts it in 4 low with the hubs unlocked and shifts 1-3 and then into 4 high and through 1-3 again, said it did 0-60 in 3 seconds and was totally seriuos, i couldnt hardly keep a straight face, everybody has to have a dream though right?

We've all had our encounters with these folks. I try to not ever disagree with them as they usually have some sort of need to make up these stories(and sometimes they're meanern a junk yard dog or a weight lifter, too).
Usually they are flat arse broke, have a clunker and need some sort of ego boost (can you tell that my wife, the psychlogist, has an effect on me )Dave W

A friend used to have a cobra with a 427 in it, ran racing fuel, I believed him when he said 0-60 in a bit over 3 seconds. I am always leary of making a horsepower guestimate, unless it gets on a dyno you don't know for sure.

Well i am the guy thats broke with the clunker but it wont go from 0 to 60 in 3sec thats why i am working/trying to trade for the toys i want so have a good laugh on me. It will go 60 on a good long straight flat/maybe downhill road. Its a 65 Ford F100 with a 40 yr old straight 6 still runs good and doesn,t use oil or smoke. It may outlast me. My other truck is a 65 Chevy with blown (as in no good) 350 needs some tender loving care and some more cash to make it go again. Laughter is good for the soul so laugh and be happy.I just wonder what happened to GOVERNMENT of the people by the people for the people?

Hey Pat when you get my short block done and after i get it together do you think i could pull fifth wheels sideways too? i would have to post a pic of that, maybe i will have to start small and pull some dually deisels sideways first and then graduate to the fifth wheels and then maybe houses? and pat don't you mean a 350ci on one side of your motor and then some?

theres nothing wrong with that old trucker i'm broke too i just spend outside of my means in the name of hot rodding, the one thing that makes you different is that you dont say its got 500 hp, hey both those 65's are cool trucks, i have a 67 c-10, i am really into the trucks but hate the traction issues involved

At my age HP no longer impresses, especially now that every Tom, Dick and Harry is making a car with 500 HP or more. Hell, some of the new Euro cars are hitting 1000 HP. I do find torque numbers much more interesting.
My sbc has been on the dyno only because when I got the car, I was skeptical of the claims of the previous owner. The HP is actually higher then the claim, but not surprising with the addition of a better bump stick and the headers. HP is just a number used for bragging and little else. Besides it seems that everybody's got one higher so why bother.Bob
