Pedal to the metal, Cross Country

In the early eighties I got involved in an east coast version of the Gumball Rally. I was driving a 77 Corvette from New York City to Miami and back, thought I can do this. My best friend was my co-pilot and we made it from the harbor in New York down to the Orange Bowl Stadium in Miami. On the way back we had gone about half way through Georgia, almost to Savannah, and the motor let loose. I blew a piston straight down into the asphalt. Now I find it hard to even consider hitting triple digits on a public road.

Did it for the "Four Ball Rally" back in 1982, Boston to Miami in a 74 Pantera as Co-pilot.........

The new ones are all hype, full of baloney, and nothing but filler for the TV producer and his crew. That along with a way to take advantage of those with far too much money than brains as the last "Euro Gumball Rally 2000" contestants can attest to. promised 400+ miles of pure open roads with no speed limits, they did not make it out of Texas without half their cars being confiscated and several of the drivers deported back to where they came from. The people behind the event mysteriously end up with a bank full of cash and the contestants end up with nothing.

What a great scam, Bill!!! Kind of goes back to the old saying that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!!!!!

About 20 years ago, there was a guy around here who was going to build an INDOOR 1/8 mile dragstrip......actually got some fools to invest $250.00 each for their "life time membership" that guaranteed free admission for them and their car forever!!!!!! Took the law about a month to catch up with the clown but of course the money was already gone....
