test drive
finally got to take my old girl for a test drive to see a little of what she can do. It got from 0 to 60 in 7.1 and shifted at 4200 rpm. that is with a 2.72 gear. I have tried to put everything in a desktop dyno but some of the things they ask for i have no idea. I know that I have a 350 ci. motor and a 350 tranny. the car weighs approx. 3480. any idea what horses i might be running?BARB

there is no dyno testing place anywhere near me that i am aware of. and after watching dyno testing on youtube i would not let some of those people get near my car. too many videos showing pieces of engine under the car after the test. i know that horses are bullshit and i could care less other than when guys ask my son what is mom running he wants to tell them without going into details over their heads. no matter how it turns out it still makes me smile to here her grab traction and feel the trust.BARB

flh4speed. When hubby brought the car for me the guy said that he was setting it up for the strip. that he put the edelbrock rpm performer package in it and it was producing 396 horses. I do not have documentation but i know that the cam is different because it has a wonderfull lope at idle. I do have cast iron through out the engine with a edelbrock 650 rpm carb and mallory ignition. all he said that he did was the engine. it has original rear and tranny and had no interior to speak of except the original dash. her name used to be buddy love . I replaced the interior, put in a shift kit, shocks with air ride, motor mounts, thermostat, secondary ignition switch, and replaced the rear seal in the tranny, and a new manual fuel pump after the last one cracked and sent fuel into my crank. I could not have done any of this without you guys talking me through. I truly love working on the car. My next job is to finish the body work and paint and to replace the 2.72 with a 3.73 gear.
Henry. We love chesty here and are very, very proud. The next time that you might be up this way stop by and I will take you and your wife out to a great meal.Last edited by jyardgirl; 11-16-2007 at 07:00 PM.

I had two 1970 Montes one 1971 and one 1972 . They are very much like a big Chevelle around 150lbs more . I had my 1971 Monte Carlo weighed it was 3760lbs With the A/C removed . The car was a stock 350 270HP TH350 12bolt 308 open rear end car . It ran the stock Q-JET points dist with a curv kit a dual exhaust with no headers and had tail pipes . That car ran 15.50s at the strip . I was yonger at the time and beat that car to death . On the street that car would hook better and beat many cars . A rich kid had a built 1973 SB Vette with a 4speed the monte smoked that car . But I did burn out three TH350 trans and break lots of engine mounts . I latter chained down the engine .

Today they have Polyurethane engine mounts . Back then we had rubber or solid steel . Latter I did run solid steel mounts on my 1970 Monte that had a factory 400SB . Use the Poly mounts you will break the stock ones .
Getting closer on this project. What a lot of work!
