bore is 4.250 454 block or 427. and any crank 366/427 is 3.760 crank will make a 427 you need 427 pistons and any big block rod for a low buck build would be a stock 6.135 long rod

    I think you can build a 496 for about $50 more than a 454.
How long do you think a set of hyper. pistons will last in a low 11 sec. car??
If Scooter had said low 12 sec. car I would say run the hypers. but in a low 11 sec. I am having my doubts.
yes they are not much more money to build a 496 and that is the way i go on all my low buck builds i run the speed pro hypers and run them on many builds but i have never hard any come apart but if he going to sray NOS and then it is a JE/SRP for sure i run the hypers to there big side of spec for hard beating they say they do not grow much but on very hard use i would not bet on that

Yes,I have been running the Speed Pro's also with very good luck in most of the street 496 builds.
If this is more of a bracket car then I would look at a set of the SRP pistons or if there is any chance of nitrous oxide being used.

I have seen to many of the KB pistons just lift the tops off just above the top ring land.
I have run the Speed Pro's up to about the 575 hp level without problems.

I would say it can be done for $3,500 with a solid lift cam but if you go mech. roller or hyd. roller or add the SRP pistons I would say you would be closer to $3,800 and as much as $4,000.
It really depends on how good you want it and how cheap you can find a 454 core block and 049 or 781 heads.

can low 12's mid 11's be done with 373's? see i am not use to high gears gota make it highway able and track ready. with the 4 speed it should be to hard on the road. so whats the easy way go find a 454 and build a 468 like what pat was saying or just stick to a tall decker?

Yes,using a 3.73 gear and a 4-speed with a 496 low deck, solid lift cam, a low 12 sec. pass is done very easily if you can get enough traction.
The tall deck blocks may require different exhaust headders.
