Is it possible to lose your adress, purposely!

Theres a house across the street from my freinds house that has prostitution and drugs. I am checking out this house so I can report it to the cops. My first problem is the house number does not match to the others next door as it should. Is it pretty normal for adresses to not go in exact order? Where could I find out exact adresses?

I've worked in EMS for years and found that different cities do different things. But when searching for houses I have found that the street numbers do not always run in order. Especially if there are spaces or gaps between the current structures. They leave out numbers in case someone decides to build another structure in between existing stuctures.

Your local Fire Dept or EMS agency are great sources for info. Or just call the Police and tell them that it is the house accross from XX and give a description of the house that you want to report. You can also try to catch the mailman and ask them what the address is. Good Luck!

The City or County should have maps that are public information too. Go to City Hall and ask.

If you are in New York State as your header says, then the city/town tax assessor will have a correct map with that info. All you should need is the street name and the approximate street numbers in the area so they can locate the property. They have to show you this information, though you may get some hesitation. It is a matter of public information for anyone to view. As far as going in order, my house is #24, across the street is #13

the addresses should run odds on one side and evens on the other. if the house is a corner it could have the number of the other street. it could also jump a whole block like from 300 block to 400 block if it is 2 blocks connected because of no cross street at that point. or an alley running through. or maybe the thugs in the house put the wrong number on the house on purpose. the last idea is probably more accurate.

Thanks for the help. I have tried the Dallas County Appraisals District with no luck I think the system is down. Also there are no spaces in between the houses ,each house is a duplex though. We will be checking with the police dept here in a minute, but I did tell him to stop the post man tomorrow. The thing is that we are trying to do this as anonymous to these people as possible. If we just call the cops they will go to my friends house and its very possible they will tell these people who the complaint is coming from . I am thinking the house is/was condemed and these people went and moved in. There is some weird things going on here and its getting worse. The neighbor has called the cops a few times but cops show up these people stick their head out of the other side of the duplex and say they just recently moved out. Cops say ok bye bye, couple hours later back in bussiness.

sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't run in order... I have seen it where, the street numbers go up to a certin point on a street. and start on another street paralell to it at the same spot, usually a cross road between the 2... also the Amityville horror house had it's house number changed because of publicity and the new owners didn't want visitors.

if you have street numbers from the surrounding 2 houses, you can get the parcel and block number for the house in question, and from there find the house number..

Check with your local P.D. and see if they have an abatement program. Usually, the cops, based on complaints, will go into the house with the fire dept, health dept and code enforcement. One way or the other, the problem is solved. It may require you to set up a meeting with someone in authority, like a watch commander or captain. Also, notify the local news media. Big help in getting the P.D. to reacted.
