I'll try to keep my comments as PC as possible. I have no problem with people who come to this country and who do it the right way, and in the same manner our Grandparents and their Parents did it........................learn the language, get a job, pay taxes, become a citizen, obey all the laws, and generally be a nice person. I DO have a problem with people who want to continue to converse in their native tongue and not learn English, who take all the Government handouts they can get, have no intentions of becoming a legal citizen, and fill up our courts and jails because of their unwillingness to not break laws.
I know this is a generalization, and for that I apologize. But something has got to be done about all the people coming here with no intentions of doing it the right way.

Yeah, I agree with some of that. My Grandfather came over on the boat from Czechoslovakia at the end of the 1800's. He and my Dad did speak some Russian at home, but not 100 percent of the time. (Usually when they were arguing ) But people of that era cherished the thought and prospects of becoming Americans. Sure, they kept part of their heritage, but for the most part tried to fit in with their new home. Most worked hard to make a decent living and teach their children right from wrong.
And while my comments may have the appearance of being directed at one group in particular, they weren't intended to be that way. That group is just the most prevalent right now here in S. Florida. But the crime issues are certainly not exclusive to only one nationality.

I don't hold anything against people who come to this country as long as it is done legally. My ancestors came here from England in the mid to late 1600's. Techically they were illegals, at least to the local native americans.
Mexicans do take the brunt of a lot of the accusations, because they are the ones coming in waves. But, I don't care if they are from Mexico, Canada, Iraq, or Cambodia, if they are here illegally, then they should get legal or get out. Florida does have a mixed bag of latino nationalities, Cubans to the south, Central Americans all over, and a fair amount of Mexicans as well. Especially in central Florida. Many of whom are there legally, because they want to be legal. Many are very hard working people who have businesses and are an asset to their communities.Bob

Another thing I found odd. I was in Mexico city and speaking with about 8-10 Mexicans at diner I asked them what was there thoughts on the drugs coming from their country. What they told me was as long as the Americans DEMANDED the drugs there is money to be made and they will make it. They really could not understand Americans fascination/demand with drugs.Last edited by BigTruckDriver; 01-29-2008 at 04:21 PM.

I agree that the word Mexican has come to be a broad blanket to cover many Hispanic groups, just like we blame the Chinese for producing all the crap parts we all complain about. In fact, many of these parts come from many other countries.
Contrary to what may have been interpreted here, I have no problem with Mexicans, or Cubans, or any other Nationality coming here. (Let's face it, we probably weren't on the American Indian's guest list either ! ) What I do have a problem with is when ANY incoming group takes more from the country than they are willing to put back. I know illegals here (personally) who have their Kids getting free lunches at school and free medical care. Yet a staggering number of middle class, hard working people in this country do NOT have health care................I am one of those people.
I mentioned a while back that I worked with an illegal who I like a lot. However, as nice as he was, he had no hesitations about having his kids signed up for Medicare and Government handouts, even though he had health insurance available to him at work that he could have bought. He simply figured why should he buy it when he could get it free. BTW, he did not make $ 7 an hour either, he made $ 22 plus bonuses. He also found out that at Christmas various churches would give needy families free dinners. So he went to 5 churches and threw a big party for all his friends.
Are all of the imigrants like that? Absolutely not, but enough are that our Government resources are being diverted to support them........and we are the ones paying that bill.

Speaking about health care and insurance---when I was flying the B737 I flew to Mexico City a lot(1988--) down there the doctors and lawyers drive taxicabs as no one uses medical services and no one has enough money for any one to sue---so there perspective is out a kelter for the way we do things here.
I am surprised that no one responded to my idea of taking Panama canal back and building the much shorter fence between Panama and Columbia---stop the drugs!!!
Annex Mexico and Cetral America---make them territories just like American Samoa and PR---They would then be citizens and we could tax them---there money spent there would be in our economy

Don I'm with you. I work in a neonatal intensive care unit in california. 70-80% of our clients are illegal aliens who are uninsured. A friend once said calling an unlicensed citezen an illegal alien is like calling a drug dealer an unlicenced pharmacist. I like hispanic people. I probably wouldn't have a job without them as they are the largest baby producing population where I work. Where I do have a problem is when Nurses I work with can't get the same health care coverage as the illegal aliens! If you want to know what is raising the cost of your health care look to illegal aliens exploiting poorly written medical laws. We could fund one hell of a national health care plan with our citizens only. It is a shame that our borders are so easily crossed and our system which was made to help the more needy is exploited the way it is. I met a sweet couple of working class citizens a few months ago who begged to leave the hospital early because they had to pay their bill out of pocket! These people both worked, and payed into Social Security and Medical, but weren't entitled to it for they earned too much, but not enough to pay foor health insurance. This is a national problem, and unfortunately the largest offenders are Mexican Illegal Aliens. Does it make them bad people no.... Does it make it right Hell no! If an Iraqi was here illegaly he'd be serving time in Guantonoma Cuba , but Mexicans pretty much come and go as they please using your hard earned tax dollars to their benefit. I joke with coworkers about how we pay our own salaries funding Medical for people who don't pay into the system. I don't know the diffinative answer, only the current system is not working." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.
Yep. And I seem to move 1 thing and it displaces something else with 1/2 of that landing on the workbench and then I forgot where I was going with this other thing and I'll see something else that...
