Yes, Earnhardt was aggressive-probably too aggressive-but being in the spotlight all the time, you only got to see Dale bumpin' & runnin. They never showed the other ho-hum drivers doing the same things. I'm not saying that makes it right but they all do it, always have, and I don't think it's right to say he's the only "dirty driver" there ever was. I'm not trying to start anything , so if it comes off that way, I apologize in advance.Superman wears Chuck Norris pajamas

A-h-h-h NA$CAR. It sure ain't what it usta be. I have watched and attended NA$CAR races for a long time and still enjoy it - to a point and I probably will continue. I never watch the pre race garbage - I'm not into watching one or no hit wonders screeching so-called music. But I digress - again.
All my opinion: The racing on a track longer then 1.5 miles really isn't. It is a battle of attrition. Restricter plate racing is boring - though a 1-2 lap shoot-out like yesterday can be interesting. But to watch 198 laps of follow the leader usually puts me to sleep. Racing at a track like Bristol and Martinsville still is - but 43 cars on a .5 mile track is almost a demolition derby. My guess is that most teams enter their most clapped out cars there. I sure would like to see more racing at venues like Watkins Glen. It weeds the real drivers from the pretenders.
Many of today's crop of drivers wouldn't even be able to make the field in the '60s - '80s time frame - they just don't have enough experience and the cars didn't have power steering. Recall the 'good 'ol days' when NA$CAR used to race 60-70 times a year - tonight on dirt, tomorrow on asphalt. I've seen them run on one of our local dirt county fair tracks - great fun. R. Petty, Ned Jarrett, Tiny Lund, Cale, Donnie, Bobby and so on.
Dale Earnhart - great driver, missed on and off the track and by some of the other drivers. I disliked his driving style immensely as did many. The great love-in only started after he died - then everyone was a fan of his. Bull pucky. Watch the races - thank goodness for TV as I will never go back to the Daytona fiasco or even Charlotte, but might go to New Hampshire for the combined modified/Nationwide(Busch) show this year. Support your local tracks and drivers. Most aren't in it for fame and fortune, but the enjoymant.Dave W

See how enjoyable things become when profit is the main focus.................
People will wake up one day and realize its not all about money, most things are done for profit and most things have been ruined from it,all the way from customer relations to actuall product quality to entertainment value.....all is comprimised for profit. Its gunna take longer than u thought and its gunna cost more too(plan ahead!)

Me too Henry. But at least if you're there they race during the commercials. Unlike at footbal games where the TV timeout ref controls action until the freakin' commercials are over.

Tivo is the best damn thing that has happen to NASCAR. I can turn it on when it starts, skip all the commercials and bullshit, still get a nap in between lap 25 and lap 160, and catch the last 15 laps.
I used to watch it religiously, now I watch maybe 5 or 10 races each year. If the drags are on, NASCAR loses. And yeah it was better back in the early 60's and 70's, but for the most part it was not shown nationally on TV cause most networks didn't have an interest or didn't think any one north of NC had any interest.
I was lucky to meet Dale twice when he used to do GM promo's in York PA each year. He had a lot of fans up here, on Sundays, nearly 1 out of every 3 houses in my area were flying the number 3 flags in their front yards. Hardly see any flags these days. Not saying NASCAR isn't still popular, just doesn't seem as popular as when Senior was running.Bob
