dumb,stupid,freaking computer
has anyone else have had this problem, it is driving me crazy, you know that
little wheel on the mouse we use to move what ever we are veiwing on the
screen up or down, well mine locks up once in a while just for a minute or
two, the only way I can move anything up or down is with the bar on the right, now here is where it gets me pi*****, if keep trying to use the wheel to move things up or down,my text size get either bigger or smaller depending on which way I'm turning the wheel, so now everytining is all out of whack so then I have to wait a couple of minutes and go to veiw
and reset my text size, could this be a mouse going bad or do think
my computer has a viruse? thanks ...james..

Usually you hold the cntrl key down and turn the wheel to change text size. Could be during the course of your frustration you hit a series of keys that messedsomething up, orth mouse is sick, or maybe you do have a virus or worm.

For two years my computer was freezing up at times. It actually had a pattern to it. It would freeze up and I would have to turn it off to reboot it. Then it would work for a couple of minutes and freeze up again. After another reboot it would run for maybe 10 minutes then freeze up again. After another reboot it would run for quite a while before freezing up again.
That was the pattern each and every time, and I just learned to live with it. Finally, I found 155 viruses in my computer, and did a non destructive recovery and got rid of all of them, and now it never freezes up. However, I also lost the sound in my speakers, so I can't watch any YouTube videos, but I would rather have that than freezing up.

I don't think it's a virus, however it wouldn't hurt to check.
Normally something like that is either a problem with the mouse or just the settings on the computer. Try holding control and scrolling with the wheel, if that works fine then something got flipped around because usually doing that will cause you to zoom in and out. Also if you are using a wireless mouse you may need a change of batteries.
Hope this helps.HRB

Renu I'd tell you to try the basic thing you'd do to diagnose a problem with your car. Swap parts. If you swap out the mouse for another does the problem continue or not? If it doesn't it was the mouse and if it does it is probably software related. There is no substitute for cubic inches

If you got a virus checker, make sure it is up to date, then run it. To an indepth check. Doubt that it is a virus, but worth the effort anyway.
Mice don't last forever. Better to replace than investigate. Go buy a Microsoft Wireless 3000 USB Optical Notebook Mouse for about $20. Plug it in to your USB port and go. Takes one AA battery (included). Still has the wheel but no stupid little rubber ball to get all gunked up. I've been using one for over a year. Replaced battery once, when cursor became erratic. Plus no wire, so you don't have to stay 3 feet away from your computer to use it.
If you don't have a USB port (you didn't say how old the computer is) just go get a new mouse of the wired variety. Odds are the problem is in the mouse.Bob

.....and if you do buy a new mouse, and it is the wired kind, make sure that it is an optical mouse. Again, no little ball to crud up. Depending on where you get it, $5 to $100, with either Logitech or Microsoft being probably the best brandsDave W

OK Amigos, here is picture of the mouse I am using and have trouble with,
it has 5 buttons and would like to find one just like it cause I got used
to it,but I can not find a brand name on it, the other picture is of
my dell computer as for someone asked how old it was,2 or 3 years old,
and of course the little cute guy is my little sidekick,or shadow ,he follows
gramps everywhere, yes everywhere even when I go to the john,
I did try a couple of things you guys said, but it still didn't fix the problem,
I lend out the dell mouse so I haven't tried that yet, I'm about ready to throw the sunny beechie ( as my pops would say) away.Last edited by renu36; 06-19-2008 at 06:46 PM.
