Since I got us into this thread, let me see if we can salvage it.
I watched the show again tonight, different episode though. This one was on the later model lowriders. It centered around the fantastic paint and artwork on some of these cars..........candy and flake jobs that were really out of sight.
One artist on there said he only does two cars a year because of the amount of work that go into his jobs. What do you think some of these paint jobs cost? Someone like Jay (hotrodpaint) should have some insight.
Really impressive cars and the amount of work is unreal.

Itoldyouso- radical customs have been around a long time. While we have a thread going here about snob car people we need to acknowledge that it takes all types of car enthusiast to produce a car culture.
While radically chopped custom bodies with fully chromed engines and chassis are not my thing but I can still look at them and appreciate the dedication and talent that goes into them. The same could or should be said for anyone looking across the automotive hobby arena.
I mean is it self defeating or what to bad mouth someone else's automotive area of interest. So Duesnbergs, Voisins, Cisitalias and Delages aren't your thing? And those George Barris and Darryl Starbird-style customs aren't either? And you don't care of restored showroom stockers? Hate Rat Rods and lowriders? Bonneville cars are dumb? Great. Stay in your little world but please don't tallk down other people's areas of interest. It's just so shallow. There is no substitute for cubic inches

What channell are these two shows on? I'm guessing it is some car network premium channell. I'd like to check it out though, Thanks, Steve." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

The thing that interested me the most was the attention to detail the builders of these cars pay to every little detail. Some even had gold plating on the suspension pieces. Obviously, not a driver, but sure nice to look at.
As for cost, the one paint artist said he is backed up one to one and a half years, and if you come in with how you want your car done he won't do it. He says to just leave your open checkbook and your car and you will love the results.
The other thing I like about the show "Livin' the Low Life" is that there is very little of the usual nonsense on it, like the little "pranks" they play on people on Overhaulin', or the skeet shooting and goofy other stuff they do on shows like American Chopper. This show is pretty much car stuff, pure and simple. Even the girl on there is pretty straight forward (ok, so she wears a low cut top ) but pretty much sticks to the facts and car related subjects.

Hey Don
Just went back to the beginning thread, Speed CHannel! Sorry for the redundent question. I like the phillosophy of you'll love it when it's done. I know what you mean about American Choppers, I watched it for the first season, but it wore thin after a while. Plus I'm tired of watching how the bang something together and don't take the time to make sure it's sound, before dumping in the clients lap. If I payed big bucks, I'd want them to make every detail perfect, and make it mechanically sound. None of this last minute crap! I also know Vinnie's cousin, because I work with her. He quit this year because they only pay Cody 12 bucks and hour, and won't give him health insurance. Cheap bas.... Paul needs to lay off steriods too!
OOps I'm ranting..... Low riders are cool, another form of art work and devotion in the car world! Post some more photos!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Vinnie was only making $ 12 an hour!!!!!!! I can't believe that. Just last night when Dan and I were watching the show I made the comment about how they seem to be really struggling since he left.........they now have the office guy (Jason?) helping with fabrication. Yeah, I'd really want an expensive custom bike he worked on.
At that time I said to Dan, "strange Vinnie left, I bet between his good salary and the money he earned for being one of the "cast" on the show he was making big bucks."
Wow, if that $ 12 is right, I am really stunned. Besides Rick and Jr, he is the only one I see with any real skills on the show.

Cody was making 12 an hour. They just take care of the family, no one else. They're very greedy!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.
