Thread: Warning from the past.......

I reckon it's a good thing for folks to empty the bile from their gizzards once in a while. Truly though it don't make no difference who is the Prez or from what party they are from. It's just a big boondoggle.
Just keep it in perspective. Truth is nobody from this forum is going to do anything that affects anythig anyone discussed. I say this as a matter of fact not out of malice but as an illustration.
For example, long, long ago I used to watch shows like 60 Minutes and all their exposes and what not. They designed scripts that made you mad. There was always some travesty or alleged injustice being perpetrated somewhere on someone. If you'd watch them shows you'd get riled plain and simple.
Well, it hit me. There is a faction that is purely trying to rile folks on purpose. The reason may not be what we actually think. Lots of these folks have agendas other than what is on the surface so we must be carefull.
OK well, I'd watch old 60 Minutes and get worked up about some story every week. Then one day I realized there was absolutely nothing I could do to alter any of the circumstances that created the sad story. I wasn't responsible for any of it and realistically there was nothing I could do to change anything since it had already occurred.
The next day was work again and I got back to it because THAT is the only thing that sustained my family. Politicians and do-gooders, indignant marchers or protesting mothers contrubuted absolutely zero to my family's bottom line. Regular working folks can't afford to take off work and protest this or that. Who funds them people?
There is nothing anyone is going to do to change politics, the Constitution or, more realistically, a lobbyist on Capitol Hill. No one from here is going to introduce a bill to the House or even write their elected representative a harsh letter. It is what it is and the sooner you relax and realize that you are just getting mad for no reward the sooner your blood pressure will go down and all this sillness will fade away into the background perspective where it should be.
Many of us have serious medical dramas ongoing and the last thing we should be worrying about is a lame duck president, the possible next prez or anything related to stress, tension or things we can't control.
You can control your car but you can't control any bit of this. Face it. The sooner we realize that the healthier mentally and physically we'll be. If we allow someone or something to externally exploit our feelings we're just pawns.
If you can't personally control it, it doesn't deserve your attention.
It may be theriputic to bitch about costs of living and gas prices but keep it in perspective. Some of you been out of the country in the service or even on vacations so you know the score don't ya? Yeah there ain't no freakin place anywhere that is even close is there? There is no substitute for cubic inches

Cops are merely a tool of the Law Makers. They are doing what we hire them to do. A lot of my friends are cops and I've ridden with them while on patrol. They have a tough job but they do have a "Them and us" mentality.Give me something to cut with, I'm going to build a Hotrod

Walt, you don't say much on this forum, but when you do you say a lot!

I'm sure you didn't post it to get people upset, but SOMEBODY needs to upset some people. SOMEBODY needs to get the silent majority up off their duffs to go out and vote. You can bet the noisy minorities are gonna be out in force because, like I've said, they've found they can get what they want by voting in their socialist benefactors.
If you don't show up at the polls, then you're part of the problem.
If I have, through my rantings, convinced just ONE MORE PERSON to go to the polls and vote, then I have made a difference.Last edited by techinspector1; 03-10-2008 at 01:24 PM.

If that really is your attitude, then you're part of the problem too.

Many of you have probably seen this before; but, I think it helps to illustrate something, (it all depends on how it's "spun") and after all since the theme seems to be about elections and a one world government.....
"It is time to elect a new world leader, and only your vote counts. Here are the true facts about the three candidates.
Candidate A. A known associate of crooked politicians, and consults with astrologist for answers to the toughest questions. He's had at least two mistresses, chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.
Candidate B. Was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon most days, often used opiates in college and drinks at least a quart of whiskey every evening.
Candidate C. A decorated war hero. He's also a vegetarian, doesn't smoke, never used illegal drugs, drinks an occasional beer with dinner and has never cheated on his wife.
Which of these candidates would be your choice?"
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, here are their names:....
A: Franklin D. Roosevelt
B: Sir Winston Churchill
C: Adolf Hitler
Did you make a good choice?"
I must say that in watching the film in the original post, I see that it is meant to point out how horrible things have gotten...and how our current leaders are so much more secrative and evil than those of our past.....you know....from the good old days...
Reviewing history though, one might remember that FDR told a little lie too. In a fireside chat, "...I won't send your boys to war...." History has shown though that FDR knew that the Japanese were about to attack Pearl Harbor and did nothing to stop them. Or are we really meant to believe that, ironically, by a huge stroke of luck, that all of our Aircraft Carriers were out of port when they hit?.....One could argue it was the right thing to do though since the country would have never rallied and gone to war without it, and it was a war that needed to be fought, because FDR was a great man.....A similar move was attempted by LBJ years later when a U.S. ship was "attacked in the Gulf of Tonkin".
Along the lines of the country going to hell in a handbasket, do you really think that it's something new that our troops aren't being taken care of just since Vietnam, Desert Storm I and its' sequel? If so, look up the Bonus Army of WWI and what happened with them during a little march on WA they made to try to collect on a promise. Pay specific attention to the names of the Generals in charge of the operation and the calvary and how their careers turned out....
Oh yeah, and there was also another US President that suspended Habeas Corpus only he went further and actually used it to round up his political opposition of the time and had them held without trial for years..etc....his name, Abraham Lincoln.
I guess my point to all of this is that it really depends on the spin. Not much has changed with regard to how the world really is or how governments work or don't. Our society isn't suddenly going into decay because we have prostitutes walking the streets at night, after all there's a reason it's called the "worlds oldest profession", it's been around a while. So have a lot of the problems we see pointed out in the video.
I agree with others that the absolute worst thing we can do is to count on our elected officials to fix much of anything. We obviously can't accurately judge candidates by their supposed moral compass, or what we're shown or told and be assured of anything. Please re-read the examples above if you disagree with me on this.
Furthermore, the more problems we expect the government to "fix", the more power and rights we surrender to them. They're not taking our rights away from us....we're giving them away, by constantly complaining and bitching that things aren't perfect and it's all their fault.
That one move by us, gives them all the opening they need to rile people up and "change the world", by taking "control" of the problem and implementing measures that end up costing us more for the same product later. I agree with Bob, indeed, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Now before I say this next part, I want everybody to understand that I am only talking about those (the squanderers) that are too lazy to work, not those that have medical problems, real disabilities, work or worked for most of their lives etc....If you feel offended by what is written in the next couple paragraphs, please, come back and read this part again until you understand that I'm probably not talking about you. If you do indeed belong to the "squanderers" group though then yes, I'm talking about you.
I don't know why, perhaps its a sense of entitlement; but, for some, it seems that somewhere along the way "the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" got twisted somehow to: "the right to life, liberty, food on the table, a great paying job, no cost perfect healthcare, cheap consumables (especially gas), no obligation to serve your country, low interest loans, no taxation, low cost high quality housing and not just the pursuit of happiness; but, actual bliss." Hogwash I say. I've earned what I have, which isn't much; but, I earned it, and so can they.
Unfortunately, the squanderers hold our futures in their hands. They have to change to fix these problems. They absolutely need to go to work, period. Where? Well, lots of places....
For example, I grew up in an area which the local economy was based around agriculture. As a youngster I labored on farms in the mid-late 80's/early 90's. Not too many kids my age would come out and do the work I did, because they seemed to be "above that". So, most of my "co-workers" were illegal aliens; because that's about all the farmers could find to work for what they could afford to pay. I'll tell you what, I watched them work their rear ends off for that money. All of them sent a majority of the money they made back home to feed their families in Mexico. I respect them a helluva lot more than I do a lot of the folks that are part of my own generation. They were definitely not afraid of hard work and suffered from no illusion that they were entitled to anything. They saw an opportunity to improve their lives and they went to work for it, while a lot of folks in this country complain they're not getting their fair share. I guess my question to them is, what "fair share"? The first life lesson I ever learned was that: the one thing life isn't, is fair.
A bit of a rant I realize, and yeah I feel better now....
Cheers,
