I can usually find this sort of stuff pretty quickly, but this one has had me looking for over a half hour and haven't found it yet. Here's the best I can do so far......
    http://amcrc.com/tech/tech.html#Engines

"AMC started development on a new V8 shortly after the first was in full production. The new engine, introduced in mid 1966, shared some features of modern small blocks and others more common with big block of the era. It had wide bore centers comparable to a big block. This made the block a little longer but provided plenty of room for future growth and increased stability. For this reason some publications call it a "mid block"."

"The VIN may say it came with a 401 but that doesn't mean it's still in there. The valve cover tag may say it's a 401 but that just proves the covers came off a 401. Look for the "401" cast into the block behind the motror mounts."

Anything will fit in there if you want it in there bad enough..... Was a guy around here used to bracket race a 401 powered Gremlin.... It was a strong runner, but I remember him once saying the engine had some oiling issues in it's stock configuration that had to be reworked.... Suppose you've already checked all that out anyway??? With CRS the way it is, can't rember what all it was but........

A Vega engine compt. has to be cavernous compared to some of the English Fords that I've seen with SB Chebbies or Nash Metropolitans with big V8's

Dave S, I do understand CRS. I just walked into the kitchen and forgot why.....

I was in the garage yesterday, went in the house to get a fresh cup of coffee and a pack of smokes, took me 4 trips to get both!!!!!!!! Sometimes I think I could be the poster child for CRS!!!!!

Schedule if for next January. All the fuelers will be here for the annual time trials to test before Pomona. You'll have unlimited access to their trailers and pits. I'll introduce you as my new tech guy.
