    Odd Time to purchase

A guy is coming from Chicago to pick up a set of $80 wheels; he is driving 2 ½ to 3 hours he should be here between 10:30p.m. - 11:00p.m. our time 12:00 p.m. Chicago time. Can you image driving that far for a set of Cavalier wheels. Oh well I pulled guard duty in the Army I guess I’ll practice my {Barney fiife} probably spelled wrong, One bullet in the shirt pocket.

I put them on a list I won't say which because it may be wrong I'm not promoting it.

I drove from St Paul. MN to Canton, OH to get a model of a B-25, I picked up a dash for my Mustang in Indianapolis, ID. I drove to Kingman, AZ to pick up my wife twice, and twice to Maryville, TN to get her.
I quess picking the wife up, doesn't count.

BEFORE they raised the gas price, we would drive anywhere to get just about anything!

It turned out two car guys; we talked for about hour and a half. The guy that bought the wheels restores muscle cars on the side. He just likes cars like we do. I had my garage locked but then gave them the grand tour. Even though you can't see most of the cars a real car guy can see them. His best friend owns Pace Trailers from Indiana. We talked about Chip Foose, Boyd, and Unique Performance. My wife asked if everything went ok? She said you didn't tell them about your cars did you? I said no I showed them. Most of us car nuts are all the same, addicted I think we get high on cars. Great guys.

We are pretty much the same, my wife hates to take me shopping I usually find something to drag home. One time I went with her to get our daughter a lens for her camera, we came home the owners of a 50 ford chopped top. I traded her wedding dress for a 60 Chevy.

You can basically tell if someone is safe or not. My Son hates it when anyone comes to the shop because he doesn't want people to know what all we have in there, so whenever I sell something on Ebay that has to be picked up he freaks.
I just sold my old arc welder and a guy came to pick it up and you could see he was just an average guy so I gave him the cooks tour, just like you did.

Plus we work with the shop garage door wide open, so it isn't like people who drive by can't see inside.

You just never know who you are talking to on the phone, con artist or thieves, they make their living coning people or stealing, so you have to be leery. Like you said you can spot the real people right away. Every time some one comes to look at a car or whatever I have for sale I first shut the garage door, then we end up in the garage.

Not too long after we moved here to the country a terrible thing happened. A young couple, and like us, they liked cars, and Cats, they were working people, she was a
School teacher, he worked at the county garage and did cars on the side,
They had a fairly new Harley Davidson for sale, a guy came from about 100 to 150 miles from down State that was interested in the motor cycle, he was out to deceive them and one thing lead to another and he murdered the young couple after the husband helped put the cycle on a small trailer. It was so shocking to move to a small place after leaving the high crime area near Chicago and have something like this happen close by. The young couple took in just about every stray cat that came a long; they had some dogs they cared for also. It is a crazy world; good thing the guy that did the killing didn't get 10 miles away before he was caught. Even the country is not like it used to be with all of the drug dealing going on today, you just have to be alert.

I drove from Kentucky to Colorado to buy a set of Halibrands. Met the guy at 5:30 in the morning in a Walmart parking lot (before he went to work).

....and yes the drive was worth it. I got a killer deal on the wheels and didn't trust the guy to carefully pack "those old mag wheels".

2300 miles round trip. But I managed to fit all four wheels with tires into my toyota echo (one front and rear in the trunk, the other pair in the back seat). Total fuel cost was only about $120.

A toyota echo is one heck of a parts chaser. I went to Michigan to pic up a skid of used sprint car headers and mufflers ($50 on ebay).....13 headers, two big flowmasters, and 4 smaller muffs.

Doing crazy stuff makes the car stories better. But sometimes you do need a truck to bring back bigger pieces.

This 1953 jaguar engine and trans came from Hudson Falls, NY

My 1790 cubic inch V-12 tank engine came from Rochester, NY

Don, I been trying to get over to Ft. Myers to look you up during my trips to Florida. So far I haven't made it, but have at least one trip planned this year. But after hearing about your son, not sure if it's still a good idea.

Maybe if tied a white cloth on the antenna and got out of the car with my arms raised, I might be allowed to approach.

Even at 61, I still love to drive. Don't hate flying, but do prefer driving. We travel to Florida from PA 2 or 3 times a year. Have only flown once in the past 15 years. I have a business meeting in Seattle this summer, even with the gas prices, the wife and I are thinking about driving our Mountaineer out for the meeting and then spending a couple of weeks sightseeing before heading home. Can't beat driving to truly experience this beautiful country of ours.
