I have never seen one in person but have read several articles about them. Apparently two other models were made, a 1960 Thunderbird and a 1967 Lincoln. 4 of the original 1936 models are still in existence.

One sits in the lobby of Reynolds Corp (yes the same folks who gave you Reynolds wrap).............Not sure where the second one ended up after the Ebay auction.

I've never seen one in person either, but have read about them too. As I remember it was some collaboration between Ford and some steel company, maybe US Steel or Reynolds as was mentioned earlier. I think it was done for some worlds fair to show off the qualities of stainless steel. I think Pittsburgh figured into the story somewhere.
As I remember, the cars were not 100 percent stainless, stuff like frames and running gear were regular steel and when they restored some of them they needed a lot of work on the undercarriages but the bodies were still nice, obviously.

I saw one of the 36 Fords at the Minnesota State Fair in the late 50s, it was pretty cool.

Glad to help. Those are awesome cars. No mention of what happened to the two missing 36's (I would presume accidents??) Does anyone know for sure?

I remember reading a feature article about these cars with lots of pictures in Rod and Custom back in the 1960s but I do not know the exact reference.
