over the weekend Chicago and New York areas had highest fuel prices---gas well over $4 and climbing daily Saw diesel at $4.999
We're moving our shop back home because of time enroute and fuel for 22 mile drive 6 days per week---has been about $100 fuel and 18 man hours ( 2 people) weekly plus utilities and taxes for 10000 ft shop.

I can retire anytime but wife still needs to go to work (80 miles/day) so I might as well go too (we work in the same complex) unitl she is ready to retire. Right now it's costing about $70/week in gas. Good thing is that the jobs pay well, otherwise it would be a whole lot tougher, with tough decisions to make.Bob

Not walking to church. Church is 20 miles away. Might have to find new religion. Got a Luthern church about a half mile away, maybe I'll convert. Always good to stay in His good graces. Think I will give up the beer and split the pizza with the cats.Bob

It really affects our business, the freight company's give us a sur charge, you can't get freight quotes at 30 day's any longer. It's day by day. Pretty soon the freight will cost more than our product

I think I'm gonna find a good ol' Studebaker round fender truck and put a modern EFI V-8 with AOD in it along with appropriate creature comforts. Build it as a driver, then find a comfortable little Civic or other such economy car to drive daily. That gives me a good cool truck when I need one, but one I can park when I don't. I only drive about 15 miles a day during the week, but am using my '01 Silverado to do it. Can't see replacing it with a new little car. Or maybe I'll just keep driving the Chevy. It's paid for and gets 16 mpg around town.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

There was just a story on the local news about a computer repair business that has converted all of it's diesel trucks to run on used cooking oil. They made a deal with some restaurant chain to swap computer repairs of all the old cooking oil the restaurant no longer needs.
I see lots of posts everywhere from people who are starting to think of converting cars to propane and other alternative fuels. I asked the guy at UPS yesterday how this was affecting their costs, and he said they have increased prices by 30 percent and are going to go even higher.
Glad I bought my little moped.

been eating more steak-um sandwiches or hotdogs for dinner. And that is just for the gas to keep the lawn cut. Get fined here in town if grass over 3".BARB

Actually that picture reminds me of a guy I used to work with years ago. He had a little 100cc Honda he rode about 20 miles to work most days. He was about that size, too. I had a full dressed Gold Wing that I used follow him with, and he always told me to not follow too closely because people would see his bike, then mine and laugh at his. Said it was embarassing.
I might have to put $99 down on one of those new Smartfortwo mini cars. Good safety rating, same mpg as a Gold Wing (40 mpg), better roll cage protection, and half the price @ $11,600 fully loaded. Either that or find me a nice little used Honda Insight (2 seater 68 mpg hwy).
Of courrse, what I really need to do is win the lottery, retire, move to Ft. Myers, and borrow Don's "hog" when I need to pick things up from the store.Bob
