Well, here's one other prospective. I got my first car in the early sixties and grew up with the music of that time. I even spent the first couple of years of my career spinning records at the local AM station. Thought I was pretty hot stuff....
A few years ago I built up a car just like the one I had back then except much nicer.
When I get in that thing and put on an oldies disc it's like being transported back four decades.
I can't do much about the scary wrinkled up cadaver assed raisin I see in the mirror each morning but when I get behind the wheel of my 56 and go to the shows that play oldies, it makes me feel a bit better.
You'll see what I mean in about forty years you will look back to this year and remember the music and the time when gas was only 4 bucks a gallon.
Now I have to agree with you on the current batch of oldies that seems to dominate the shows. I mean, you can only listen to "little duce coupe" so many times before you want to pull out your three or four remaining hairs.
I put together a series of discs with all of the top 50 hits between 55 and 69 and even found some of the ones you never hear anymore.
In fact I found and included the flip side of many of the hits that came out but they didn't get as much play.
Many of the tapes and discs that are currently on the market are of the really popular tunes that were on the charts at the time. They don't really reflect or recreate the mood of cruising on a friday night listening to the AM radio with one rear seat speaker with a spring type reverb blaring the huge cross section of the talent that's currently lost to todays listeners.
If your parents are interested, have them drop me an e mail, Steve and I'll see if I can fix them up.
Pete

How about you head over to 4shared.com - free file sharing and storage and set up a free account, drop the URL here and we can all upload some suggestions for ya..
You get 5gb of free space, so there's penty of scope for alot of tracks, esp if everyone does them as WMA and not MP3.
Why not check out some of the 'modern' rockabilly/swing bands to bring a more upto date aspect to the nostalgaic theme of the show???
try bands like the go-getters/ carlos and the bandidos/ brian setzer / 3 bad jacks / Big sandy and his flyrite boys / indigo swing / Big bad voodoo daddy / Royal crown revue / lil mo and the monicats / hillbilly hellcats / bellevue cadillac / the atomic teardrops / lavay smith and the redhot skillet lickers(AMAZING!) / steve lucky and the rhumba bums / hot club of cowtown / BR549 ????
If you want i'l set up and account and post the link and everyone can stick their stuff up there for ya....
and i can whack a bunch of the above bands there for ya too.8TH ANNUAL RATFINK PARTY & KUSTOM KULTURE EXTRAVAGANZA - 21TH JULY LOS ANGELES COUNTY RACEWAY, PALMDALE CA.

And finaly here's a very rare radio show recording of Lux interior from THE CRAMPS...Its him playing all of his favorite 40/50/60s jazz/rockabilly/rock nroll/surf rarities and some vaudeville novelties...This is quite a favorite amongst the music conscious rockabilly crowd.
Some awesome tunes, and great effects...
Tracks labelled as The Cramps Z - B , I have had to label the track Backwards so they would play on my mp3 player, so Track Z is track 1
Track Y is track 2 etc....
Very odd and very quirky cruising music on there..
I can also upload a bunch of Surf music, lke The Champs / the Trashmen/ the revells / etc if'n ya want...Last edited by evil666greaser; 05-26-2008 at 03:44 AM.
