Eye opening fuel dragster facts.
I watched a show on TV yesterday, NHRA Spills and Thrills or something to that effect. One segment of the show was about fuel dragsters and how much HP they make and how fast they really are.
To put it into perspective, they lined up an 8,000 HP fuel dragster against a Pontiac G6 car. The fuel dragster was only allowed to punch it for 1 second and had to shut down and coast the rest of the way down the quarter mile. When they raced the dragster shot ahead and shut it off. He still turned mid 11 seconds, and the Pontiac of course lost.
The second part was where they had a clear glass cylinder that shows how much fuel flows into a fuel dragster engine, nitromethane. First they showed it at idle, and quite a bit of fuel was going in. Then he said "here is at wide open throttle", and the cylinder was like you had turned on 10 garden hoses at once! And that was only one of 8 cylinders.
Really a cool display showing how much HP these monsters really make.
