Don, sorry to hear about Scooter, if you can’t tell how a pet makes you feel, then the other people just plain don’t get it. A pet will never let you down or give you the cold shoulder. When you have had a pet for any length of time you get attached to them as they get attached to you. We have heard other stories about people losing a pet on this site, it’s a forum if we can’t talk about things in the lounge, then what’s the lounge for. It’s tough to lose a pet, we lose one here in the country and soon there is another hungry cat that appears. Scooter had a good home for along time, you will miss her but from time to time you will see something that will give you a smile thinking about her.

Don- I've been there so know how you feel. I just can't figure out how we get so attached to them. This time I've tried to keep a distance but it's impossible so I know I will be going through it again. Sorry you have to go this.

Don, real sorry to hear about Scooter. I know how you feel as I had to put my cat down a few years ago after having him for almost 15 years also. The shinning lite on 'ol Seaside is I see a few of his off spring around the neighborhood, at least they look like him so I feel he's still around.

Being a pet owner, both cats and dogs, I'm sorry to hear about Scooter. Putting an animal down, especially one that has been with you for any period of time, is a tough decision and a very difficult task. I had to have my wife's cat put down about 10 years ago because she could not. Last year we were both with our little Lhasa when we had to have her put down. We both cried at that decision, but my wife was shedding tears three months later. That's why we now have another Lhasa.Bob

Sorry Don. I have had my dog for 14 years. I got her a month after my last child was born. they have grown up together. Now she is getting a bit long in the tooth and I fear won't be around much longer. A pet truly is a part of the family. That pet effects everyone in the family. No good words to say but remember the happy times.

I can't thank each and every one of you enough for the concern and caring comments you have made. I read every one of them and they were a lot of comfort.
Today was one of the hardest days of my life. Scooter didn't die in her sleep as I thought she might, and in fact this morning was fairly alert, but she was also bleeding very badly again. I took her to a local cat hospital and they took xrays and called me back a little while ago. To sum it up, she is a very sick little cat. They don't know if it is kidney failure, or some form of cancer, etc. What they would have to do is lot's of workups and a blood transfusion, and even at that he doesn't feel she is strong enough to make it through all of that.
So I had to make a decision that was the toughest one I have had to make in a long time. After calling my Son's for their advice, and praying, I called them back and told them I have to let her go. I just don't want her to suffer any more, that would be very selfish of me. She deserves to go in peace.
Right now I'm pretty broken up, but it means so much to me that I had all of you to help me through this. Each time one of you would post some similar tragedy it hurt me deeply because I am an animal lover like most of you. It is so hard to let go.
Thank you my friends for being there for me.

Don, you did the right thing, we had to do it our little dog of 13 years her kidneys were shutting down, and she had lost 75%. We hated it too but it was for the best for her not to suffer.

Thanks guys, and I'm so sorry to interject such a downer subject into the forum. I just needed to talk to someone about it, and I feel most of you can relate.
On a slightly upbeat note, I went to the shop and brought Sniffy the other cat back home with me. She was looking all over for Scooter and is really freaked out. In fact, all weekend she was hiding in one of the shelves in the office and would hardly come out when I called her, which is very strange for her....she loves to have her back scratched. I think she could sense something was wrong.
Right now she is getting used to my room. I momentarily introduced her to Dan's 3 cats, and they didn't have many problems, just a little checking each other out. I think she will be fine here. She loves cardboard boxes, so I will pick her up one so she can really feel at home. One time we bought a new VCR and she adopted the box immediately, so we had to keep it sitting on the living room floor for a couple of months before my Ex-GF made me get rid of it.

Thanks to all, I appreciate it. I still get choked up at times, and can't stand to look at the pictures of her in happier times. But bringing Sniffy to the house was good medicine for me and for her. She is getting along well with the 3 other cats and Dan I bathed them all tonight........boy was that fun! The two male cats were like tigers and we had to hold them by the scruff of the neck to keep from being cut to ribbons.
I really apologize for bringing this thread up, but you all helped me get through a very tough day. Thank you.
Don
Yep. And I seem to move 1 thing and it displaces something else with 1/2 of that landing on the workbench and then I forgot where I was going with this other thing and I'll see something else that...
