This is really getting out of hand, seems every week we are hearing of some car like this disappearing. We are going to check out Lojak and the other GPS thingie on the market.
Sadly, most of these seem to never be seen again. Makes you afraid to go to any of the big shows especially, as thieves seem to case cars there and steal them.

Feel sorry for the owner. Many insurers won't cover a loss when the loss occur at a shopping center or any other venue not related to a car show or event. They specifically exclude trips to malls or grocery stores or Wal Mart like businesses, unless it is for the purpose of attending an event or getting car parts or maintenance. I hope like hell that his insurer will cover, because it is unlikely that he will ever see it again, at least not in the same condition.
Most malls and shopping centers have security cameras on poles, walls or roof tops. Very few want to be sued due to an issue of customer safety. Hopefully there was a camera or two covering that area where the car was. but it's also possible that the picture quality may be of little value identifiying the bastard who stole it.
Maybe if he is lucky, it was stolen by a joy rider who will abandon it when it runs out of gas.Bob
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail....but a true friend will be sitting next to you saying..."Damn....that was fun!

It was his wife’s cousin that owned the car, and this guy was watching the car until the owner could relocate.

Malls are EVIL.........
That sucks man, I don't know how the malls are in CA, but here in PA I wouldn't go near one in my rod.
+1 on the security camera, I would go to Mall security and ask. Given the short time you were in there it should be easy to find it on tape. I know guys who have done that and as long as you were in a place that was covererd you should be golden.HotRod
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
