    Back to Basic's

    Back to basic’s

Small tree house when I started, a little trickery works sometime when you have been married for almost 40 years.

This started as a tree house for the grandkids a small one we got from my wife’s sister that was moving. The kids loved it but I thought it should be bigger, one thing lead to another and now the kids go back to the old one. My wife said she could use it as a garden shed. I need to get the lawn mowers out of the garage so I could have some room; she suggested putting a lean to on the side of the tree house. I had to be cautious as not to have her stop the project so I went along, and said I would have to have some more lumber. I started putting post in the ground. My wife said how big are you building this? I said maybe 12x12 so far so good, I had the post in to make it 12z12 then said you know for just 4 more feet that would give us more room but I need more lumber. She talked me into going to the lumber store, I thought if I make it 8feet more instead of 4feet that would give me 12x20. I told her all of the advantages of 20 feet instead of 16 feet. Now I can park a car in inside, and at the back of the tree house if I add on the other way I’ll have a little room to put the lawn mowers in. I can run electric from the pool equipment it has a box with 220 I could get a few lights and a mig welder along with my old air compressor 5 horse 20 or 30 gallon tank. I wouldn’t need to run everything at the same time so it should work. For now I’m thinking about leveling the ground, and putting visqueen plastic sheeting under gravel until I can get concrete to try to hold down the moisture. I’m more excited about this set up then I am about my big garage as it is full with no room to walk let alone work. I’m one of those guys that cannot throw anything away. My first was just a little bigger 1 ½ and I did more work in there then the other bigger garages over the years.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, it is high enough on the side of the tree house to make a loft for storage.

That's actually a pretty cool little house and carport there Richard. What a beautiful setting back in the trees too.

But you will have to explain this "trickery" you used to get your way with the little lady. It has worked well for you for these 40 years evidently, but I only got 28 years in before mine caught on and decided she couldn't afford me any more. If I had your method, I might have gotten a few more years milage out of the deal.

Bobby, more lumber is great you can always use more storage room for sure. I just have to buy it little by little as it is so expensive.

Don, she has been great to put up with me. I just use the old tried and true method “what do you think Honey” can we really afford it? I like the property if we could only find a way to deal with the mosquitos.

I'll try it in the morning to see if it works. Just got service back for the Internet, wow a day without high speed is not a good day, first time since we got high-speed service in our area.

Don, you’re right about the credit thing, it works for me when I say that was a good idea you had. When you get up to our age we forget whose idea it was so we are covered, and she gets the credit. The young guys should live by that rule, and they can get tools, cars, and most of all a good friend.
