Check out your old stomping grounds during the times of the penny postcard. By the way, most likely none of us were alive when postcards only cost 1¢.

Click on the state and then on the county name to see old penny postcards from that area...pretty neat.

Thanks for posting Dave. But unfortunately, even though my home state was listed (Maryland) my home county (Kent) was not. Which surprised me since Betterton (my home town) was a big beach resort from the 1800's thru the 1960's. In addition to the beach and cottages that were well attended by people from PA, NJ, and DE along with people from Philly, there was boat service daily from Baltimore bringing on average 350 daily tourist. In the early part of the 1900's, it was a port of call for many steamers out of Baltimore and other ports around the world.

The good thing in this, is that my parents kept a lot of the old postcards from that period along with many, many old photos that were taken between 1890 and 1940. I have some in storage and will look for them. Maybe I could scan a few of the old beach and the steam and the old sailing freighters.

I'm in Tennessee, but they didn't have my hometown of Hickman Co. I know it's not a booming metropolis, but we do have Grinder's Switch, birthplace of Minnie Pearl

I know I have a few oldies as well and if I can find them will consider posting as well.

If your town isn't listed, the website probably hasn't gotten any postings from folks. My home town in Michigan, Niles, has a few but the town I actually spent much of my wayward youth, Buchanan, 5 miles away, doesn't.

This is history and a lot of these gems got tossed by later generations without thinking that folks really want to know their roots (sounds like a book title, maybe - oops already taken - dang that Alex Haley).

Myself, I'm going to look at more of these postcards from the past. Love history, it just wasn't a way to earn a living 'way back when' I was a younger sprite

Thanks for posting that. My area of Pennsylvania (Westmoreland County) was there with a few pictures of Idlewild Park in Ligonier, and one of a place in Jeanette I don't recognize. I have been to Idlewild Park a few times, it is a quaint little amusement park in the rolling hills of Ligonier.

Very cool to see these pictures.

As was I and although my hometown of Dayton, Ohio was well represented most of the scenes were a little before my time. The buildings hadn't changed but the vehicles depicted sure had from my first memories.
