Has anyone ever seen a tiki / Polynesian based paint scheme on a rod?
If so please post some pics!

Ummmm......the Maori tribes are a bit touchy about seeing their ancient / tribal symbols being used inappropriately or for commercial gain.
If you can claim Maori or Polynesean heritage, it could perhaps be a tad different, but if you can't........
Well, put it this way; I for one, (being honky,) most certainly wouldn't.
It would / could have the potential to upset an awful lot of people.
Think about it very carefully.

I dunno, Man....back in Hi School and before it was politically correct to be "politically correct", the big fad in Hi School was to have a Tiki to ware around your neck on a thin leather thong.
This was about the time that the Beach boys were big and there was a glut of
"Gidgit" movies and, of course, surfing was really becoming big.
Most were hand carved and had jeweled eyes.
Never got to much static from anyone.
Only got into trouble once for having a Marlboro hard pack rolled up in my sleeve.

Just my usual comment that I reserve for similar paint ideas.... IMO art belongs on canvas, paint belongs on cars... Guess I'm showing my (very opinionated) age, but I still believe quality is the best paint for a car!!! Heck, I still think a two tone is wild!!!!!
But the other rule applies, it's your car, do it the way you want it and to heck with what anybody else (especially geezers) thinks!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

This is also somewhat traditional art, if you remember the southern California car culture, "surf woodies", and even the beach movies, of the '60s.

This "Geezer" sees custom cars as "personal expression", and therefore "rolling art"......but I am also very glad we all have a different view. I can't imagine living in a world where we all paint our cars the same color, with the same wheels, and even the same pinstriping on them! How totally boring!
......Wait!......That's happening right now! :-(

You asked for pictures...right? Obviously, these were on a bike. The theme was a compromise between spouses. Kind of a "Carribean pirates meet Jimmy Buffet". :-)
More to come.Last edited by HOTRODPAINT; 08-09-2008 at 12:34 PM.

...and here are two PT Cruisers, and a Vette.
I doubt if this is exactly what you are looking for, but maybe it will spark some ideas. I have a bike coming some day that will be a south seas tribal theme, but sometimes they don't get completed.Last edited by HOTRODPAINT; 08-09-2008 at 12:46 PM.

I too am a product of the 60's and I grew up with Kustoms (Barris, Roth, Starbird, etc) and drag racing funny cars, so the wilder the better for me.
I am not a big fan of low riders and chopped up bodies but I appreciate the beautiful craftsmanship and understand why so many people are attracted to it. Maybe that is why I am not!
But a car should be a reflection of its driver, so if momma want to paint flames on her soccer taxi-van then COOL!

Recently I put flames on a Scion XB...(the really boxy minivan)...for a gal. It's part of the price I pay to be a painter. :-(
It's not all bad though. The locals with blower street cars have found me lately! :-)

I just saw this Chevelle wagon up at Hot August Nights. Those engine covers are painted, not real wood.Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
