Dont ever mention words like "billet", "fiberglass", "hidden hinges", "nice glossy paint", or even "SBC, or small block chevy". I read a thread there about a guy who got so sick of fixing the flatty in his 32, he actually thought for a second about going to a SBC. He got blasted for even thinking about it. Like anything, there are pluses and minuses. But an open mind is something they normally dont have.

I've been an Alliance Member over there for a while now, and I don't find that statement to be particularly true. True, they ain't real fond of billet but the rest of the words don't bring much attention except for a few hardcore members. There are quite a few glass car owners with or without glossy paint. The biggest issue with the SBC is the abundance of them, not the engine itself. Many early hotroders moved to the early sbc's, especially the 265's, 283's and the 327's. They also favored the early Olds' and Caddy engines. The early Olds's engines and the 327's hold a level of endurement not too dissimiliar then of the flatties.

I see more flaming done because of FNG's who come just to badger or to start talking trash about rodding 1980 or newer cars and trucks or trying to create an illusion by using fake parts on newer engines.

Just like any place else, you get as good as you give. As far as their Moderator, Ryan, I have had several conversations with him and although he is a hardcore traditionalist, he always finds the time to help members seeking info and assistance. I would imagine it's not an easy thing trying to maintain some kind of order to a forum with over 55,000 members..

Also, even though you don't need to be an Alliance Member to be a participating member of the forum, the Alliance membership cost, which isn't real cheap, can be worth it if you are into buying merchandise for your rides. The discounts earned can easily pay for the membership, at least it has for me.

You just have to learn to eat the meat and spit out the bones. I don't condone that ill behavior at all but it is easily avoided and worth the effort.

I have a grand total of 12 posts there under my current name (same thing happened there to my screen name as here), but have probably another 20 or so under my old name. I mostly lurk, and at that, seldom as there are just too many forums, often with the same info that don't allow some posts.

My biggest complaint is that they really don't have the forum broken down like most do, like here in categories so you tend to lose some cohesiveness and that many wont go back more then a few hours. I did go in with my eyes open - but some folks do seem to be intolerant of others views so I try to avoid their confrontational issues - and the language sometimes gets a bit too far into nastiness - but, that's HAMB. Then there is my car which is well billeted

Maybe 'we' just need to not give a 'hoot'! Really, why do we care if someone doesnt like something we do specificallly to our machines. Yeah....I get offended too sometimes...but then I remember that its just someone displaying a stronger opinion than what I usually display. I say.....ask for opinions....but stick to your guns when it relates to a style...or what is obtainable for you at the time. I feel for the guy. I like the look of the flat head....but unless your building a nastalic rod....why? Can get much more hp/$ with a different combo. JMO.

    Don,

I dont suppose your a gamer?.....Call of Duty 2? I met up with a bunch of these guys that play on the server in Austin. I was just wondering how many of these folks are CHR members? I think the clan was SRS Clan. I thought I'd be the oldest player but I'm actually mid-level in age. Just curious.

Fwiw, the HAMB now has classifications for posts, Technical, History, etc.
You can note the classification in advanced search and it's been a help so far.

Bob - If you are talking about my wiring issues - you're probably correct

As far as name....I can generally be found out, regardless. Bill (Mr Mustang) said my old name was all fixed after some twiddling, but I've gotten to like my newer identity tho I did lose ~1000 post cerdits (sooooooo what!! )
