The weather is changing but some good news locally!!
All summer the skeeters bothered me both early and late in the day. Now - my shop is about 45 degrees and it's only about 38 degrees outside. Whereinhel did the summer go - again???
I dragged my Mr Heater propane heater out to at least get the chill out so maybe I can do some work.
Next thing - snow, sleet, freezing rain. Brrrrrrrr.
The price of gas to heat my home is up, propane for my heater is up, cost of electricity is up, the stock market is cratering along with my investments.
The good news is that computer chip maker AMD will be building their 3 to 5 BILLION DOLLAR plant less then 5 miles from where I'm writing this so my home value instead of sliding like most of the rest of the US will actually be rising - fast, I hopeDave W

90 degrees F here today.
(Kingman, Arizona.
60 degrees F Saturday.
The jet stream is dropping.
Hoping for rain, need to dig some postholes for the carport and waiting for the ground to soften up a bit.
But . . . the really good news is, after the AIG bailout the execs went to an expensive San Diego hotel & spa for a $400,000. weekend.
Along those same lines, Phelps, who oversaw the Lehman Bros downfall went to a public gym on Monday I think it was.
Guy put his weights down, went over and punched Phelps knocking him down and out.
Appropriate methinks.
Bet he stays out of public for a while....C9

Most of us locals thought that AMD wouldn't move here but the announcement was made yesterday with the contract to be signed in a few days. It will bring about 1200 to 1500 high paid people in and eventually more but all of the other area upgrades may bring in up to 5000 total. Then construction jobs - lots.

Yup, plans are being finalized for the move.... Got a bunch of projects to get finished here though, and clearing out of various business "involvements" is going to take about a year to get finalized.... But I was already online at Home Depot looking at possibilities for a new shop---in Texas.....
Thanks to a very good friend, and an astute businessman I cleared out of the markets about a year ago and got into some low yield but very safe things... Thank God that for once I shut my mouth and listened!!!!!!!! One very small 401K is tanked, just a leftover from years back when I once tried working for someone else... It's back to the original invested amount now....can't get at it without paying all the dang penalties so I guess it will just have to stay there and ride out the storm.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Dave have you decided where in Tx. you are going to locate?
Memory tells me you have family or visited in Austin last yr.
A lot of the HAMB'ers live here,me included. We have a large group of rodders here and in the sister cities.
When I was in business some years ago AMD built a new plant in Austin and we built and set up their wafer handling (robotics)equipment,Good Company.
Austin has lost a lot of potential buisnesses wanting to locate here, because they want to protect the environment.Expansion of the businesses here is very difficult,so they go elswhere.
The weather has been hot and dry here this year,we are under a drought alert .We are over 10 inches behind on rainfall.Don D

The weather is the only good news I got. Rain tonight and tomorrow, but the weekend is looking upper 70's and 80's and it's a 3 day weekend for me.
My investments are in the same condition everyone else's is at least around me. Wasn't planning on retiring for about 3 -4 years anyway, hope market comes back by then, other wise it's going to be hotdogs and cereal for my daily nourishments.
C9x's bitch about AIG reminds me of one we have here in big B (Ravens hometown). BGE/Constellation Energy is selling out to Buffet and the pres of Constellation is getting a $48 million severance package and a $30 million bonus package. So much for loyalty to stockholders. This is the third company that the bastard has scuttled for a huge profit. I can't figure out why good companies keep hiring him.
Oh well, it's going to be a long winter with the price of fuel up and furloughs and layoff's being discussed by management.
Now where did I put those hotdog rolls?Bob
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail....but a true friend will be sitting next to you saying..."Damn....that was fun!

Well, Dave, We've been looking for you here in Texas since you first started making noises about relocating, maybe three years ago.
It seems to be the custom around here to advise a guy to "Git crackin" in cases like this. I don't have any idea how a man goes about "crackin" but I guess it means to move with some haste.
You probably know that we have NO state income tax here and we enjoy a comparatively low cost of living, to boot. The economy has slowed but it is still moving and there are still new homes being built.
Keep us advised, friend, and if you think of ways that we can help, then squawk.

Think I'll probably wind up someplace around Baytown (and the dragstrip, of course). Things take time, lots to get done here, first... I like Austin, just not a whole lot there for me. I was really amazed how much it had grown since I was there with time to look around! The wedding was at the golf course at a place called Avery Ranch, very nice place. Some family there, lots more family, friends, and some business acquaintances around Houston though. Eventually Galveston will be rebuilt (what a mess!), and I really do like the beach!!!!! Some things pending, going to be awhile before everything is finalized... Probably be out of here in a year at the most....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
