I am not an Attorney, nor am I giving legal advise.

    Experience with past like situations:

Send certified letter to the last known address. Keep a copy for your records. When the letter comes back, do not open it. Sell his stuff as "abandoned property".

I he comes back for it, hand him a Copy of the letter and a copy of the sealed certified envelope.

If he takes you to court, present the sealed certified letter to the court. The court will open the letter and inform the plaintiff that he was notified of the pending sale of property. He loses.

There are no stupid questions. But I've seen some really stupid answers.

Here in SD we have a legal device called a warehousmen's lien. Takes very little to get it put on an item. Unfortunately, had to use it a few times. Some customers seem to think a shop should offer unlimited free storage for their projects...... Paperwork is the same as a mechanic's lien, just has to do with the storage part instead of the parts and labor of a job. Most of the time, the customer realizes your serious and gets his stuff out of the way....
