    computer help

I have a issue were my computer will not log on to internet . I am getting a page not found at the top . At the bottom it says server not found and dns error . Well when i flush dns i may get on but only for a short bit and this starts all over again . I have checked the networking card and it says its working fine but still lose internet .

I am on another puter in house that is connected to the router and i get on fine . But if i leave the one downstairs hooked up by the ethernet it will give this one a dns error also . I have reformatted to no prevail . Do you think my network card is bad even though it says it checks out ok .

Might be a guru here that will lend his knowledge

a virus will sometimes do that. run your virus check. also could be a power supply problem. had one going on me and did the same thing.

That comes up for me occasionally. Shut it down, turn off all power or unplug the system and disconnect your in line to the modem. Give it 5 minutes, reconnect, power up and try it again. Works for me.

Can you get on using Internet Explorer???? If so then try doing a complete cleaning of your system, delete temp internet files, defrag & the whole nine yards. Then shut everything down including your DSL box, let it sit for about 5 minutes then turn your DSL box on first & let if fire up. Then turn the computer back on. This is what I had to do to mine when I had the same problem....joe

I had a problem similar to that about a year ago. After rebooting the cable modem and the wi-fi router I had no problems with my laptops but my desktop continued to have the problem. Went our and got a new and inexpensive network interface card (NIC) and plugged it in to an open buss and no more problems. Didn't have to run the software since XP recognized the card and setup appropriately.

Sometimes, for unknown reasons, the embedded network devices on the motherboard will go bad. First make sure you have an open bus slot and also what type it is, and then get an inexpensive replacement card. I think I bought a Linksys card for about $12. Works fine. You can either get a gigabit card or a 10/100 card, really doesn't matter because the network will dictate the actual speed of data transfer.

Everyone thanks for the replys . Won't believe it but norton took a dislike to my car forums i guess , when i surfed it locked me down . It got a glitch in it and comcast was online helping me figure it out . We shut off norton and there it was internet . Didnt look for its issue i just wiped it out of every where including the register and the %temp% place no one ever looks in . Comcast offeres Mc Afee free so i downloaded it in and been working fine the last few hours .

I know i am one who can not get thru a night without reading up on whats new in the forums . Glad I am back up and norton will never touch my stuff again been using it for about 5 years .

Matt i was doing ipconfig/flushdns then ipconfig/registerdns worked sometime but norton was even interupting this command .

Mopar i did the new card also thinking that could be it . Well now i have a new card and the original embedded one for back up .

Both Norton and McAfee (and many others) are real resource and cpu hogs. Take up way too much cpu and memory to run. I also use AVG on several of my home computers as well as Trend Micro. At work they dictate Norton, I don't care.... ain't my hardware.

Norton can cause a lot of problems. It crashed a friends laptop and he lost all of his vacation photo's (1000's). Norton was a better product before Symantec took over.

it isn't that Norton is a resource hog ( it deffinetly is ) but it gets in everything, and if it does not like somthing, it stops it or prompts for further action... I have it on my vista laptop cause it came with it, and I havn't bothered to remove it. I WUBI installed Ubuntu so I don't use Vista anyway.. when I use Vista, it conflicts with the ACER software the computer came with, and it takes 15 mins to boot up

I had AVG when this problem started didn't know Symantec hid alot away In folders like the %temp% my nephew had me go in and clean out some norton stuff in there still , but not anymore though . I will try this McAfee for a bit but most likely will get the AVG back in here .

IMHO Norton is a major pain in the butt. I got rid of it over a year ago and I went with Kaspersky.
