Thread: Hot rod forums under attack!

I was hoping you would see this one Tom.
Here is the bottom line IMO. The situation here is not simply that of someone voicing their opinion based on personal experience (like it would be if I said I bought a particular product and was unhappy with it or the service) but rather someone going way overboard and using his position to purposefully damage the reputation and income of a company.
I base that feeling on what I saw occur in the Corky Coker situation. The Administrator of that forum (same guy being sued here) would not let up. Every day it was a new attack and it was being fueled by a few "Cheerleaders" who kept telling him that "we are behind you 100 percent, you are doing the right thing here." I feel he got on an ego trip that time and is very lucky Corky simply took the high road and ignored him till Jon got bored and went away. Streetbeasts evidently did exactly what I would have done, filed a lawsuit to protect their business.
Sidenote: I'm not quite sure what you are seeing here Bill that constitutes shutting down this thread. Maybe the early comments I made were not in the best taste, but it is back on course and no different than a lot of other threads that wander off topic and then resume back on course. The thread starter put in his input and we are simply either agreeing or disagreeing with his position. It would be a pretty boring forum if all we had were threads in which we all agreed with any information posted.
I am also very suspicious when I see a poster with only 20 odd posts come on here and "alert" us to something happening on another forum. The very same thing happened during the Coker Tire fiasco, Jons "Deciples" felt obligated to go onto many other forums and tell the world about the terrible things Coker was supposed to have done, and wisely, most of the other forums soundly rejected the venom they were spewing. They are simply trying the same tactics here, this time, IMO.

Curt Scott for years has dogged StreetBeasts and it's previous incarnations. He is a motorsports writer and photographer who became the "unoffical Kit car industry watchdog. His editorials(some of which can be read on Cobra Country.com) are to the point and he backs them with fact, not heresay, including interviews with customers, former employees, and even a few of the principles in the industry.
He "shined the light" on unscrupulous companies in the industry over the years eventually causing many of them to either change their ways, fold up shop, or face legal challenges ie, CMC, Daytona Motorsports, Fiberfab, and even for a time Factory Five.
He has faced lawsuits from several companies yet stood by his facts and never went to court in as much as the case was tossed by the judge presiding as unwarranted harassment.
Heresay I know but because I'm still closely tied to the Cobra scene I know a fellow here that purchased a StreetBeast replica Cobra about 10 months ago or so because for the money he thought it was within his budget(buyer beware) and he is still awaiting delivery of "backordered parts"...for him it is becoming almost futile to try calling or e-mailing them about fulfilling the order it's always one thing or another, or the person he spoke with last has left the company or that person is not in or they'll call him back, or we can't find the paperwork. He is at the point of hiring an attorney just so he can get his parts already bought and paid for to finish his build...parts missing, steering wheel hub, interior..carpet,door panels, seats, fuel tank, some exterior trim parts...
Opinions are just like a**holes everyone has one...and it is really hard to make an opinion standup in a court of law. Yet if you say or do something in a libelous manner you could face a charge in court"Breathe in... Breathe out... then move on with life. Life's too short to sweat the small stuff"

Its pretty clear by your responses which side of the fence you're on but hiding your head in the sand and pretending that it just won't happen will just bite you in the butt eventually. It always does.

It is apparent from the heat being generated by this subject that we all have some strong feelings about it. Healthy discussions are always good, all of our threads can't be "last night I bolted a new set of valve covers on my Chevy, what do you think??" Sometimes subjects like this one come up and we talk about them too.
We all have our point of view on this one, and we have discussed on various forums that Streetbeasts may have some issues we need to be aware of before laying down our hard earned cash. I have no problem with someone mentioning that so a potental buyer goes into it with their eyes wide open. What I honestly think happened though was that the Administrator of the forum took it a little further than that and in his usual zeal wouldn't let up. I am basing that on previous experience with him (ala Coker). He needs to know when he has made his point and then quit.
As for Dave mentioning donations, if you read what Jon posted on the subject post lawsuit, he is asking exactly for that......... here are his words:
Certainly, we're going to vigorously defend against the frivolous lawsuit. We're also going to set up a legal fund so that the next time this happens (yes, this will happen again), we can defend anyone whose free speech is attacked for posting their opinion on a forum.
If you want to help out, you can lend a hand by:
1. Making a non-deductible donation to the legal defense fund, by sending a contribution via PayPal to freespeech@hotrodders.com, or by mailing your contribution to:
Hotrodders.com
And, as I mentioned earlier, during the Coker mess his followers went onto every forum possible to "spread the word" about Coker being someone to avoid. I see no difference this time, except the name of the accused has changed from Coker to Streetbeasts.
That is my opinion, and if this forum sees it as inflamatory, I don't agree.

I'm new in the building cars but i do know someone personally who builds alot of rods and cars . He has built one Fiberglass car and said it was a horror bad fit took alot of work and squeaked really bad and no matter what he did he couldn't get rid of the noise . He vowed off glass for ever . Still building cars just more metal now . His one time experience turned me away thats why i bought a all steel A and 37 no fiberglass fenders for me .

I hate to say this but a couple years ago I was at a local car show small town. I saw this really nice 34 Ford coupe, I kept walking around it and I told my wife so the guy could hear me “this is real steel.” The guy was maybe a little older then me said I hate to disappoint you but it’s glass! It was an old Fiberfab, now Streetbeast. I had to tell the guy that he did an excellent job it looked so real. Point is I guess there are good and bad in just about all things. I read some pretty bad stories about the company in the past but they must be doing something right. They are in every one of my car books I subscribe to plus the ones I see on the shelves at the grocery stores. I'm not recommending them, just saying what I see.

[QUOTE=Centerline]Not once have I asked anyone to donate to the cause. All I asked was for people drop over and voice their support.
Let me put it to you this way. Please...You don't know which side of the fence I'm---trust me... As for some trivial case such as this having ANY EFFECT on what the rest of the sites do, or what we as individuals are allowed to say, IMO you are putting a hole lot more importance on this case than it deserves.... a minor CIVIL CASE between two parties is hardly significant enough to change anything on the world wide web....
Want to make it all go away and NOT fear all these terrible things you say will happen???? Tell the authors to print a retraction and in the future only present their own opinion!!!!! POOF, IT'S GONE!!!!!!
Battling in court over principle, in most cases when the truth comes out it has little to do with principle, but a lot to do with pride......
Think about it, and please, don't bother with the Chicken Little "The sky is falling" rhetoric.... The sky is not falling, and this case regardless of it's outcome will not have any effect on it.....
By the way, I'm curious... How many different brands of 'glass cars in packaged form has the author put together??? I'd be curious to hear his experiences with some of the other brands that are on the market......Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

The author doesn't have a hot rod and never has. He is a "keyboard fabricator."
