    Ouch what next ?

Since my computer crashed a few weeks ago and I lost everything, I decided to buy an external hard drive, and back up evey picture I have for home, and give the CDR's to another friend to store in his safe that way I am covered. I have litteraly thousands of pictures, some ive scored from the net, and some my parents and thier pit members took. I ran across this picture and it is one of my favorites.

Now I have a question, and I think this is the place to ask it. What do you do when you are in a possition like this? I know you should try and pedal it to give it a soft as possible landing. But By the time your brain catches up with what just happened, your natural instinct would tell you to get out of it, destroy the front end, go back to the pits change your geranimals, and curl up in the fetal possition and shake. So is that what happened to the Pinto?

    Back up is good.

This guy had about a second to think about it and I think he lagged.

All right----probably mid 1972---Tom Ferraro driving---can't tell if car is on the way up or coming down---all four wheels were off the ground in some pics---As you can see, this was last outting for weed burner headers---they were replaced with Zoomies---Franklin quick change rear gave car ultra low drive line--when car came down, motor had crunched front frame rails under front mounts, body brackets were broken at rear body tree---

John went to finish line stands----I turned quick change gears over changing gear ratio probably from 430 to something like 300 to 1. Cut some barbed wire off the fence around the track ( Irwindale ) and tied the body down in the back---- Car made its best pass ever( Actually first full pass ) Nick Arias was in stands watching runs and was pounding on Keeling, yelling ---Its gonna make it, its gonna make it all the way to the lights----John was even more upset when he found out about the bailing wire ( it was rusty )

Actually Tom was the div 7 fuel altered champ and wasn't much surprised him---he had had some bad fires before and was missing some finger portions and was probably one of the calmest guys I ever met----after I told him what I was going to do, he mixed up some more nitro and got ready to go---Actually, I don't know if he knew how high up the car went---you couldn't see any thing outta the windshield--he was probably surprised when the pictures started appearing

We ran Franklin quick changes--they were a little heavier than Halibrand and more robust!!!!They basicly had been developed for stock cars where the Halibrand was more an Indy champ car sort of thing--In the rear engine dragster we used a halibrand 3 inch tube axle with billet side plate in a Franklin center--we used 486 gears as the 486 was thicker ring and stronger that way---when we had to convert to full floater, changed to Ford 9 inch for the funny and after braking a few change gears , changed the dragster also---sold the Franklinsto the sand draggers!!!!!Wish I had them now for some street rod stuff I'm working on

Hi Jerry thanks for the awsome answer to my question, I never would have guessed running another pass later that day would be possible, and the barbed wire is a great story. A picture is worth a thousand words and that proves it..

Also make sure after you right click, save as, and name it. That you go to the box below that you typed the name in, its labled (save as type), and choose jpeg. Its a more manageable file type to move around and open..

Yep, Tech--a little left turn----when they are staged they are holding the brake with there right hand and if the wheels come up the weight of their left hand/arm will turn the wheel to the left---took me a few runs in the pro stocker to fiqure out why my Monza always went left when the front wheels touched down
