    21 gun salute

My Father in law passed away Dec 2nd at age 82, what a super guy he was. He was a war veteran that served in the Korean war. He earned 2 medals during his tour. I am not sure how far Fort Knox is from Lafayette Indiana, But a VFW post from Fort Knox made the drive here to Honor him as a fellow fallen war Veteran. What a great dedication they showed, not only for the drive and time they took to do it. But the temperature was zero at the time with a 10 below wind chill. And all for the 4 minutes that it took to complete thier task, Thanks again for every soldiers efforts now and way back then, and for remembering those from so long ago. Caution it makes most people tear up when watching.

Thoughts and prayers with you and the family.

When we loose one of these old war horses, we also loose a piece of the very rich and proud history. You're right, I sat here at my desk and wept.

My father was buried a few years back with military honors as well and to this day I get a lump in my throat and a tears in my eyes as I recall the honor guard presenting the flag to my mother.

Please pass on my sincerest regards and sympathy to your wife and her family.

My sympathies also. The local post did my dads honors (he was WWII) amost exactly 12 years ago in the same kind of weather and snow. Thanks for posting the video it was a nice reminder....and as you said thaks to all the past and present vets.

My father was a MM3 in the Navy during WWII. He was buried almost 17 years ago on 31 DEC 1991 with full military honors rendered by his friends from the Elmer E. Vance American Legion Post #361.

I remember the wind, the cold weather, the salute, taps and the presentation of the flag to me - his eldest son. The flag still folded as it was that day, and is sitting on a shelf in front of my desk. He was laid to rest next to my mother, who was buried almost exactly two years earlier, on 02 DEC 1989.

My cousin, a Korean War vet, commented about what a cold place it was to be laid to rest.

The worst part of belonging to the VFW is seeing our veterans pass away.

Join your local VFW. They need your support.
