Interesting car related article
Our buddy Ed Wallace has a good article in today's Fort Worth Star-Telegram if anybody has a few minutes for a little not-exactly-hot rod reading-
Take a look at <http://www.star-telegram.com/ed_wallace/story/1077417.html>
This guy frosts a few people sometimes, but then, so do several of us who post here.

It looks like that link didn't take. I'll try again.
If it doesn't work this time I'll sit here and cuss for a while.

This time of year I like frosted cookies................
Interesting parallels eh Jim? Expected fuel shortages, small cars not being willingly accepted by the buying public, overly high production costs, government involvement that didn't really solve anything.............................hmmmmmmmmmYour Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Yep, Uncle Bob, I think the similarities of the events in Mr. Erskine's time and those of the present are pretty remarkable.
Even as old as I am I'm aware of only a smidgen (however much a "smidgen" is) of this part of automotive history. I guess my fondest memory of Studebaker has to be those beautiful Raymond Loewy designs, and they came about long after Mr. Erskine's death.

Very interesting reading and remarkable parallels... except for the end result. Today's failed executives don't take the blame and blow their brains out; they get multi-million dollar bonuses while their employess go to unemployment.
My dad was a Studebaker lover and had a string of them. I learned to drive (at age 12) in a two-tone green '53 Commander hardtop. I, too, favor the Raymond Loewy designs. He was way ahead of his time... It was a sad day when Studebaker closed the doors on their long and storied history.Jim
