Turned to rain overnight. At least the ice is off the trees & power lines now. 36.9°f. We'll see how long we get rain before the temps drop. Spoz. to get precip. until early evening."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

Richard that sounds pretty bad. How did the new tree fort/car port do?
I'm greatfull that all we get is rain, rain and more rain. It still seems to kill the power every other year or so. We definately need a small generator to run things like the furnace, fridge and on demand water heater. The stoves gas so we are good there! I wanted to get one this year, but just couldn't seem to do the 500.00 price tag! I wanted one with a Honda engine, that will work when ever wherever! My neighbor bought two less expensive types on line, but both arrived damaged, niether would start. His son in law bought one from the autozone, it too never worked, some voltage regulator problem, when it comes to needing it, I just want a good quality generator!
Sorry to hear about your troubles but sounds like you guys came thru ok! About 7 or 8 years ago we lost power for 5 days, since then we have kerosine lamps, and coleman stoves etc.., just need the generator!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

You must have done something wrong Richard. I put in a back-up gen two years ago because we were getting 5-7 day power outages every second or third winter. As often happens, now that I'm prepared the outages aren't happening. Whatever it takes I guess.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Steve, I didn’t get to finish the tree house/carport yet but one car was safe. I had two others sitting under the trees, and got concerned. I was able to move them to a safe area.
It could have been a lot worst; some people have been without power for weeks. That would really be tough. We were lucky it was just for a couple of days.
I really like the sears generator that we bought last year under different conditions, extreme heat. We were able to get a window air unit hooked up plus we had a lot of berries in the freezer. I waited along time before buying one but I'm happy I got a good one. They really take a work out running constantly.
I’m like Bob, if I plan things out they usually don’t happen but since I had the generator a good distance away it figured I would need it.
The heat is number one then everything else is just a bonus when it’s so cold, I’m betting there are a lot of broken pipes since it was so cold for so long.
We take for granted the electricity, and complain about the high cost but feeding the generator puts that thought to rest. I’m happy gas was not $4 a gallon when we lost power.

I was going to respond, especially to those wiseguys from the south, but you guys in Canada win hands down. I am in NW Indiana where we can get that lake effect snow, but we have not been nearly as cold as you guys in Canada. Bring on the summer, I am tired of shoveling snow.Manager-Royal Automotive LLC

I know other parts of the country get lots of snow. In Portland (Oregon) it comes rarely and it's even more rare for it to stick around. This my backyard over the past few days - check out the birdbath!
Arizona, New Mexico, Southern California looks real good to me!

And it won't even stop for Christmas. Compare with the earlier picture and you can see it just keeps piling on. Doesn't look like much, but we did have a very slight thaw of an inch or two the previous day, so.............
Just glad we didn't do the fuel price panic thing and get rid of the Tahoe. We had three family/friend gatherings yesterday and wouldn't have been able to do a one of them without the 4X.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

We did the same in 2004 and haven't had an outage over 5 hours since. My wife said it was the best money spent, just to ward off those lengthy outages. A similar happened in 1996 when I got tired of shoveling snow and bought a 48" wide snow blower for my tractor. No more blizzards for 4 years, and only had two since then. Yesterday it was a beautiful day with 60 degree temps. Today it was cold and snowed. Tomorrow is supposed to be 50. I don't care if it gets cold, but I'm tired of the temps going up and down like they have been.
