It really hasn't been too cold here in the normally frozen tundra of Upstate NY - but it's coming back. This little lull lets my area finish getting the power back on for those who lost it last Friday during the Northeast's ice storm just in time for the "winter storm" being predicted for the next couple of days. Our power was only out about 18 hours but like I said above, some are still shivering. My end of the street didn't lose much in the way of trees (oaks and maples) but the other end (white pine) is a major mess. At least the town highway department is helping those that don't have woods in back cart off the mess. The tree companies are raping and pillaging those who can't do their own.

I'm really feeling the cold this year. In an effort to stave off ever increasing heating bills, I didn't fill my hot tub this winter. I never used the hot tub all that much anyways. The bad thing is, that the heater, filter, and valving is in a small room in the corner of my engineering office. The heat loss from that room always kept my office nice and toasty. This year, I have to run a frigging micro furnace to keep my office warm enough to be comfortable.---Ya can't win!!!Old guy hot rodder

I think of you guys in the North West and in Canada when I see the weather map. So far my purchase of a second radiative heater (1500 watts each) is working out OK. Although it has been down in the 20s most nights now with sparkling frost on the grass in the mornings, it has been up to the 40s by noon most days and my two radiative heaters can get the garage from the 40s F into the 60s F in about two hours so I turn on the heaters in the morning and watch the Fox Business channel in the house to see where the bailout money is going. Then the garage is fine for work from 12-5 PM and so far I am making slow progress on the wiring "one wire at a time". An old wool blanket on the garage floor makes working on the floor reasonable. I have found that a 2" thick feather packed vest zipped up to my chin is quite toasty and leaves my arms and hands free for work with just long sleeves. So far it has not been cold enough to effect my hands and I sit next to one of the heaters when I plan "the next step". So far only snow flurries here in central Virginia.

Cold, Dave, Cold!Too damn cold for this time of the year
Yesterday it was a high of 15 with 40 mph winds gusting to 50 mph. Last night it was -3, today a heat wave of 26, tonight we are to have freezing rain followed by just plain rain tomorrow after 11 am.
If I could send this crap back to the Dakotas from whence it came I would. You'all are used to this crap, but I prefer it a little more mild thank you.Bob

I was going to respond, especially to those wiseguys from the south, but you guys in Canada win hands down. I am in NW Indiana where we can get that lake effect snow, but we have not been nearly as cold as you guys in Canada. Bring on the summer, I am tired of shoveling snow.Manager-Royal Automotive LLC
