I have fixed many electronic devices by hitting them with my fist or slamming them on the floor.(like TV flickers and cell phones) But I tried it with my laptop and killed the hard drive...I ain't gonna do that any more
I remember when hot rods were all home made.

Some days, no problems, today, 4 times. I've tried to download updated drivers from MSI, the mobo manufacturer, but to no avail. I'll make a couple more attempts but after Christmas/New Years week so if I 'disappear' for a while........

How old is your computer? It might be less expensive to replace the computer.

The computer is a middle of the road CPU and mobo and home built, with a high end case, power supply and hard drive and is just a year old. The replacement micro ATX mobo and CPU at Newegg is in the $100 to $150 range plus a few hours of my time. I'm most concerned with what it will do to the XP/docs files, but of course can (will) save most files on a Cd, DVD or my exterior hard drive which is really a bit small.
