Last summer when the price of scrap steel went way up, lots of cars made it to the recyclers..... It takes old iron to build new iron, or at least it makes it more economical. Unfortunately, the majority of recycled iron goes overseas. The "problem" (if it is one) is a bit more complex then adding a few bucks to the price of scrap.... Crushing cars is just another industry.... If you're worried about saving the vintage tin, start buying up the stuff you like.... This isn't the first time congress got involved in recycling, Lady Bird Johnson accomplished the same thing with her beautify America program in the late 60's.
I don't see where this or any other such program is going to do much more then get a lot of Caviliers, Tempos, and all the rest of the old worthless junk reprocessed into something usable. The bigger issue would be to address the fact that most of this, along with jobs, is being sent overseas....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
