Kitz, I need to do some research but I remember seeing an article regarding the relative "richness" of the high end people vs. the average folks....in the old days of the "barons", they were "relative richer" than the Bill Gates of today.

Maybe guys like bill gates can compare, but look at guys like George Vanderbilt, biltmore estate is still the biggest house in america, plus one of his little hobbies was buying land, the small parcel he owned around biltmore turned out to be the entire part of western North Carolina. I think the vanderbuilts, the rockafellers, George Hurst, possibly the Kennedy`s were way more rich than most today.

According to Bloomberg, it's for debt restructurring. Seems curious that both Holley and Crane did fine when they were a family owned and operated company, but both developed cash problems when they became huge corporations run by a board of directors. Maybe bigger isn't always better???
Quote from Bloomberg:
``Employees will not be affected by the bankruptcy, and the company will continue operations as normal,'' Tomlinson said.
Holley's customers include Ford Racing and GM Performance Parts. The company is a sponsor of the National Hot Rod Association and has a program that supports the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, (Nascar), according to court documents.
The company was founded in 1903 by brothers George and Earl Holley, who designed a carburetor for the Ford Model T called the Iron Pot. Later, Holley built engine parts for planes during World War II, according to the company's Web site.
Under a deal negotiated with 70 percent of the company's second-lien noteholders, Holley would pay its general unsecured creditors, such as trade vendors, in full and give almost all its equity to the noteholders, according to a description of the reorganization plan, called a disclosure statement, filed today.

I have said for a few years that we are headed for an extreme depression. I have compared it to the storyline from the 1992 movie Freejack. Where there are two levels of people, either rich and living in houses - or - poor and living in carboard boxes on the street. There is nothing in between. Our former president has led us into that state. It's Just a Car!

It showed that the Treasury prints a lot of money.... They've been doing that since we went off the gold standard.....every dollar was backed by a dollar's worth of gold... I'm certainly no economics major so I guess I don't know what he was trying to show other then that the dollar is based on credit, and we're racking up bills that are going to be tough to pay.... I have no idea what the solution is, but IMO until the country is back producing goods and employing US citizens who pay taxes on their earnings I don't really see a solution...
The way I see it, somewhere back in the 80's the majority of people lost the work ethic. An honest days work for an honest days pay, and started concentrating on the quick buck available the easy way. Then it all turned into greed, then corporate greed. Everybody started thinking the entire economy of the country revolved around the whims of the Wall Street manipulators--er, I mean traders, and wanted to make the easy bucks in the market instead of just plain old manual labor to earn it... Then jobs started going overseas and the country stopped producing it's own goods....Heck, we can't even produce enough food to feed our own people anymore, got to import that, too!!!!!!
I've been accused of being a bit simplistic, but the way I see it the sooner people decide to get off their butts and go do an honest days work for an honest wage and the country returns to being a producing country instead of just a consuming country, the sooner the economy will recover..... The quick bucks and greed system has failed miserably. Maybe it's time to quit allowing the Wall Street "geniuses" control our money and take control of it ourselves?????? Things aren't going to improve over night and I seriously doubt the government will (or even can) fix things.... I think it's up to the people of this country to go back to accepting responsibility for their own lives, and doing everything they can to make their lives better and quit blaming the government for their problems or wating for the government to fix things....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Good point Jerry. A college degree doesn't guarantee anything, still got to get off your butt and work!!!!
The average Joe, hard working guys, are the one's who built this country, probably going to be up to them to get it back on track.... There ain't no free rides anymore, time to get back to work!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I would have to agree as well. I was the youngest in my family. I just didn't have the focus or drive to do College first go round. By time I was 31, I had enough work experience to count as college equivelents in the government sector. I actually went back to get my degree because the jobs I was applying for required a masters degree. I now have several degrees, but the point is they weren't necessary to pursue my interests and they certainly were no guarentee for a job. Most of my relatives are blue colar, and doing just fine in life. Dave hit the nail on the head, it's a sense of entitlement that people have today. They believe for some reason we should pay them for poor work ethics, bad communication skills, and ill manors. Thier role models are reality tv folks who perform with a attitude on tv and generate big bucks. What they really should be watching is VH1's where are they now show. Here is a great program that shows one hit wonder bands, who are computer programers, lounge singers, school teachers, parents, etc.. people who really did make the bucks, and still ended up broke.
I guess what I am getting to, like Dave and most of you have already said, is not a political point but a societal behavioral point, that hard physical labor is beneith us. That we all deserve 200k a years livings with person company cars, jet, etc..! Look at most of those folks now! Their all going to jail, killing themselves, hiding, etc for bilking everyone else out of their hard earned cash!
I think every kid should be given responsibility as early as they can handle it. No allowance for free, instead a wage for weekly chores. Work study in High School. Bring back vocational classes to public schools, to give kids skills they enjoy and can use to be employable. When they turn 18, 2 years civil service with emphasis on improving this country, outreach work, forest service trail maintenance, fire crews, road workers, My version of the CCC, where hard work is rewarded with hard cash, and after your two years are up, you can get something like a GI bill. Think of all the internal problems that could be solved. Think of all the punk ass kids being turned into responsible young adults. It's a start!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

We're starting to see lot's of "Bartering" and "cash only" business happening in our area.
Seems like the working folks are fed up with supporting those who don't want to contribute.
I wonder where this is headed?
For the record, My Wife and I just opened our second business.
We now have two Vet practices and 24 employees.
You can't imagine how much tax we have to pay to stay open and Obama hasn't increased them yet.
Makes me wonder how much I'll have to pay this time next year.
