hay dave we appreciate that your a latent 60's hippy but we live in a era that is not peace @ love I have lived through three major riots in my life that were about 15 miles away the 1965 wats riots and then the 1970 east l.a. Mexican riots I was a snap on dealer in east l.a. and could not go to work for 3 weeks afterwards then we had the Rodney king riots in 91 these riots were spilling over to all the surrounding communities the only thing that slower them down was they knew there was armed citizens in those cities. it took 7 days for the national guard to show up and then 4 days to quell the riots if you want to ban guns or make them hard to for the criminals to get the price will rise just like dope. and people who have machine shops with c.n.c. machines like some of the members of this forum they can duplicate these guns and sell them to the the new home invasion robbery industry . that has emerged. gun control is O.S.H.A. fore the criminals oh btw I was in country in 67 and on the due line in 68@69 peace@love ........ted

Ummmm. sorry Ted, sure as heck isn't me that wants to ban guns, might want to re read the previous posts. I've got some very nice ones, some mine and the rest inherited. BTW, I did 2 tours, 69-71...and been on a VA disability ever since....

My point was that I personally choose NOT to live in an area where carrying a gun is an essential part of daily life.... Where you live and all the big city crap you put up with is a matter of personal choice to you....

Just because someone chooses to not carry a handgun doesn't make them anti-gun. Just another matter of choice...

But yeah, I still have a pony tail and look like an old hippy....

Day by day we have more and more violence, senseless violence we name it..
Innocent people die while walking the dog and being stabbed for no reason.
Postmen who get stabbed for no reason.
People have been shot because they didn't want to give away a sigaret or their mp3 or even less.
People have been shot for stealing a parkingspot.
One day a man hit an (coincidence usa) soldier with an axe. The poor guy was unsuspecting and waiting for the train. One nut guy thought he had to kill a soldier

About 10 to 15 years ago, when I was young and go out at saterdaynight, whe had a fight with bare hands when we had a quarrel. Did you get a bloody nose or a blue eye ? You lost. But today people think they only win when the other person dies, or at least doesn't move anymore.

In the past old peoples purses were stolen. Today that's not enough, they also hit and kick the old people.

Violence increases big time over here.

I don't want a weapon to hurt others, just want one to protect myselve , my girl and my house (and offcourse my cars).

So if anyone feels like shipping me a 9mm.... just sent a pm.

I guess we're just way behind the times out here in the sticks.... Kids still are known to get in a good old fist fight in the parking lot after school---then probably leave being best of friends again. Not a lot of crime, the usual BS stuff but nothing serious...No muggings or shootings around here for the last 30 years I've been in this area. The Chief of Police is a friend, but I still call him Chief if I see him uptown. I suppose most every house in town has a gun or three in them, they come out for hunting season and the target range, but not for settling a disagreement with a neighbor.

I hate the cold weather, but I guess maybe it's worth putting up with if it keeps all the problems away. Living in a town that's a bit old fashioned isn't all bad...and the whole state of South Dakota has fewer people then a lot of big cities... Respect for other people is still an issue here---well, respecting people that deserve respect that is.... Just a matter of what's important to a person, I guess... I sure wouldn't give up my laid back, relaxed life style to go live in some crime ridden big city where everybody has to carry a gun just to feel safe.... No job or amount of money would be worth it to me....

well said. It's sad times we live in, but I, like you, keep em locked in the safe except for the range or hunting.

dave I want to apologise if I did not understand your post.I evidently took it the wrong way and do sincerely apologise. things are alot different in different places in this country and I realize that.that's why I will be moving after 62 yrs. from ca. to fl. I have 8ac. of property in Florida . you can't imagine what is happening here they want a automobile free state only public transportation. today the state senate passed a new law no more free parking any where in the state that includes private and street parking and business you an have 1 parking stall for every 10.000 sq ft. good luck wall mart shoppers these peopled don't care I just hope fl. is much slower to change as all these left wing nuts here sorry ......ted

No problem, Ted... I spent some time in LA---Lynwood, actually, in about 1966...Visited it again in the mid 70's and remember seeing the "Little Saigon" sign around there someplace!!! On my trips to California since then it's either been to my Uncle's place outside of Tracy, or to a friend's place out in Corona with only an occasional trip downtown just to say I'd been there!!!!! Gotta be a bit skeptical of any state that elects Conan the Barbarian to be Governor, I guess!!!! No idea what is going to happen to the whole state, but I sure don't see anything good coming in the near future!!! I'll choose to remember California from the eyes of a 16 year old kid who got to make some hot laps and a heat race at Ascot!!!!

Don't know much about Florida, I have a daughter lives in the Tampa area and a bunch of us make it to Daytona occasionally, so that's about the only areas I've seen there. Like I said, I hate the weather here, but a popular saying around here in the winter is that the below zero weather keeps the riff-raff out!!!!

I have some property in Texas and keep saying I'm moving there....but so far I haven't been able to pull the plug and move there permanently---life around here still suits me fairly well. We still don't even have a state vehicle inspection or any form of emissions testing, lots of dirt tracks, a couple of drag strips, some fairly good "street action" on Saturday nights in the summer, and tons of old cars hiding in sheds, garages, barns, and tree groves to turn into Hot Rods----Heck, what more does a guy need, anyway????

I have a way to put this into perspective, I have a freind who I grew up with. We both took a hard left into the outlaw biker lifestyle after we got back from the service. I got out at around 43, he stayed and still is. About the time all this talk started about a gun ban and ammo seizures. He came over and took me out to his truck. Lifted the tonneau cover and rolled back a tarp,in there was every gun you can imagine. zip guns(homemade)single shot handuguns automatics, revolvers big n small, scoped long range rifles, semi automatic rifles, M16's even a box of grenades and ammo for everything in CASES. He says pick a handgun and a rifle. He was making the rounds to his unprotected brothers w these UNREGISTERED guns. "There is war coming in this country and we all had better be prepared". I asked where the hell he got all of this stuff, he said MEXICO never mind who or how! hmm.. Makes ya think. I told him I was good and we were covered, he insisted and gave me a 38 snub (which I threw in the river near me) I know beyond a doubt that he cannot own a weapon legally and also that if I knew anyone who NEVER should be armed it was him. (a fuse about a qtr of an inch long and definately blood on his hands) I have always walked on egg shells around this guy and I am one of his longest, oldest freinds mostly because of our history together and the BS we went through together. I do NOT like or support that lifestyle any longer but don't come over here asking questions , I will NOT TALK I have a home and family to protect.
Ban guns indeed, are you guys NUTS! His type can and always will be able to get guns and sell them to whoever- nuts, thieves, paramilitary, gangs whoever. Its the legal folks who will not have them. I am sorry for Dave and anyone else who lost freinds/familt to a nut w a gun. I have too, many in fact. but banning guns or registering bullets will not deter it. An automatic PUBLIC death penalty or life at HARD labor busting rocks 14 hours a day, building roads and digging ditches would go along way. Instead of sitting on their dead beat asses all day watching TV and eating JuJu's and wam wams.

I sure would like to know where in my posts on this thread is states that I want to ban guns and register bullets????????

again!!!! I OWN GUNS, SOME VERY NICE ONES, I AM VERY PROUD OF THEM!!!
I could probably outshoot some of the self proclaimed experts!!!!

Why do you some people try to read so much into a post??? I said that I CHOOSE to not live in an area where carrying a handgun is necessary...That's it!!!!

Please, I'm tired of being portrayed as some kind of left wing gun ban freak!!!!

Dave, I did not aim that at you, just my take on the subject. According to the jist i saw the post going. I apoligize if that is what I seemed to infer. I do not own guns but that is a choice I made NOT the government. It was up to me by ME. I DO hunt, but use a family gun. (30-06) All of which are locked up in a rifle safe until a week or two B4 seaon for cleaning, sighting and practice. but avail. w plenty of ammo within 15 min. from here. Some freinds and family ARE armed at home and I am just fine with that. we do not NEED to carry here either but in my hometown 13 miles from here. I would not walk out at night w/o one in some parts of that town.

    [QUOTE=Dave Severson;376588]Man, if I lived someplace where I had to carry a gun everywhere I went.....I'd move....

Dave you seem to be living in one of the safer places in the area for sure. But you are not imune to anything living where you do. It will catch up sooner or later. You should be safe in your life time though, I think we all need to move to Daves town !

In 2003 there were 8 violent crimes reported in your city by the F.B.I. under what catagory of crime is unknown.
over a 7 year span from 2002 to 2008 in your city with a 6319 population there were as reported crimes, not including the unreported ones.

    murder 0

    rapes 10

    robberies 1

    assaults 24

    burglaries 182

    thefts 689

    auto thefts 37

    arson 3

yeah, quiet little town, huh??? I don't know that it will catch up around here...people are very tolerant of each other, but very intolerant of anyone who wants to move in and cause trouble or in any way effect what they consider to be their own safety.... There's hardly anything here, wages, jobs, or other incentives to draw the get-rich-quick crowd....

BTW, it's a college town, too!!! Not at all a Jock school, but very highly rated in computer science education.....so not a big draw for the go to college and raise hell crowd....

I'd almost describe Madison as a "protected" town...people look out for each other, keep an eye on the coming and going of strangers in the neighborhood....Not a real exciting place, but nevertheless a nice, safe town....

PS---two of those arsons were what we call "friction fires" around here....seems the morgage papers got to rubbing against the over-insured insurance papers and a fire was the result....

That is the way it is here too. 3500 folks who are into everyones bussiness all the time. Hard to sneak anything here. Trouble makers get known FAST. We get gang bangers from time to time but they do not stay long. They get "convinced" to move on by losing a place to live and harrased by the local sherrif (we're the county seat).

Hey Mooneye777 - that info site was very informative ..... kinda pulls the blanket off the "I live in the best town with no issues at" places

Dgas56 - perhaps you need to view the http://www.city-data.com/city/Minnea...Minnesota.html profile to get an updated perspective as to who is leaving in your area NOW.

If I had kids I'd be a bit worried abot the 106 registered sex offenders ..... but then again I'm sure a good ole fist fight would clear that issue up.

Although some smaller towns out west seem to be more imune to the trials & tribulations of the "inner city" its subjective to the national average.

My town of 22K seems to be on par with some of the smaller towns out west. But ... when I venture into the "BIG CITY - ATLANTA" watch out.

Guns DO have a redeming quality ... it puts ME on an even playing field with the criminals.

Would I like to move to a smaller town - hell yes. But with most industry is not major nor are the jobs. When I reach a financial plateau that affords me to move my family I will. Till then .... guns, guns & more guns.

    REGS
