Can't help but wonder what we would be doing today If the founding fathers had said "let's all turn our guns into the british government. We really don't need them for protection. King George will cover us."

Actually, there was an instance before the Revolution where the British commander decreed that the people of Boston were to surrender their arms. This was done in exchange for allowing the people in Boston to leave with their personal belongings and goods. There is a good record of what was confiscated. After the Bostonians gave up their arms, the British commander rescinded his promise and did not allow "goods" to leave the city.

It was estimated that at least 50 percent of the adult males owned weapons in the city of Boston at that time. It is also surmised that people turned in their junk weapons and kept the good stuff...not trusting the British.

Had it not been for a group of private citizens, the United States would still be a Brit colony. Of course no one is advocating the overthrow of the government by violent means but the need for an armed citizenry is still valid today. IF you think that it would be impossible to do the American Revolution today given the size and strength of the armed forces, remember that the British had the most powerful army and navy in the world in the 1770 era....they were unbeatable.

This article was in a recent "American Rifleman" which is an NRA monthly magazine.

I do not support that type of thinking, but that type of movement could gain some steam in the next 4 years.

Gun control means hitting your target. End of story.

I'm not going to take any sides...but I do like my guns and wish they'd leave our gun rights alone and dump the money towards adding to our law enforcement agencies. Of coarse then they'd have to have a miracle cure for our corrupt legal system. Guess I'm just saying....I dont feel there is any good answer. You know that some of our most notorious serial killers didnt do their deads with a gun. I'm just saying there are lots of ways to commit murder. If they do take my guns....I can get creative if criminals invade. GO A-TEAM!!!!! And dont forget McGuyver!!

In reading all of Dave's comment I can't help but think there are some, like myself, that had the great responsibilty to help defend the USA. and will listen with the respect, due another human being. I was rised with guns and hunting for food and sport. I have weapons under lock and key ,unless I am using them for target practice .After my tours of duty overseas ,and the real hunting there .I don't want to hunt now, I don't think we need fully automatic weapons for home use .I don't agree with all of Dave's comment's ,but he's a lot closer to the truth than the trash running the NRA today J.

How many people do you know that has an automatic weapon? I sure dont know anyone.....it takes a $1000 BTAF tax stamp to possess one.

The problem is that the anti gun lobby has taken anew to ban any "semi-automatic" gun that looks like an "assault weapon" regardless of its rate of fire. People dont realize that the military .223 and the NATO equivalent were not specifically chosen for their killing power...their weight played a large part of the decision so the GI could carry more ammo.

The anti-gun tactics now are to ban all guns that have a "Detachable Magazine" using the rationale that if the magazine is removable, you can stick a bigger magazine in. Watch the news.....the press always says something like an "assault rifle" or "spraying bullets" or "automatic fire". Those dimwits have never tried pulling the trigger 20 or 30 times in rapid succession and tried to hit anything.

There used to be a statistic that the average gun fight involving a law enforcement person was over after something like 4.x shots were fired....dont know if such is still true but the guy firing a full auto M16 with two magazines taped together is essentially movie stuff. There are the drug guys in Mexico who have stolen or illegal autos but here in the USA, a full auto used in crime is a real rarity.

dont forget the brit 303 has a detachable magazine, yesh thats an assualt rifle
