    Laid Off!

Well I JUST got home and have been laid off my job at Wachovia Securities (investment side of the company) and now have a lot more time here. They are laying people off every week and it's VERY empty there.
But anyways I will be here more often and going to get my automotive detailing business up and running very SOON!

    Congrats on the new opportunity!

gotta look at the bright side, silver lining, and all that jazz.

I just found a job after a six month hiatus. WHY couldn't I have been laid off in March, instead of September? man, I had SO much time to tinker and wrench, but it was too cold / lousy weather! Now, got a dam job again.

Call me lazy if you want, but @ 39, getting a six month vacation after working since 16 was NICE!

I'm glad you aren't having a "pitty party"....just making a new plan of action.

My wife and I have both had times in our lives when financial disaster found us, through no fault of our own. You "do what you've gotta do", then come out of it with a new set of values. Money becomes less important, and happiness, family and friends become more important.....the way it should be. Those times also make you appreciate your successes more from then on.

Now quit reading this, and get busy! :-)

Haha yeah I am not worried. I look at it like this... Something will come around, everyone else has been laid off and now I get ANOTHER vacation. I didn't have a job for 8 months before this one and was doing side work and making more money in a day or two than I did in a week or more at my other jobs working for someone else. Now I am ready to get my business going fulltime and everything.

Yeah your right, I know lots of people with LOTS of money and they are the most grumpy and miserable people I know (some not all) and I know some dirt poor people that can barely provide to put food on the table for their kids and wife but enjoy their life and have the best times. Just the other day a few kids at the fire department were talking about how they want millions of dollars and I told them that it wouldn't make their problems go away and help things. They said I am dumb and then one of the old guys came up and said to them that when he was so poor to barely even keep a roof over his family, those were the most best times of his life.
Money isn't everything that's for sure. I've had a few tell me that I just say all this stuff that I just mentioned just now and that the only reason I say it is because I am not rich (a rich guy said this to me). I looked at him and said "I learn from other peoples mistakes as well and from listening to you bitch everyday about your divorces you have and always getting into trouble, being greedy as hell ripping people off, etc it doesn't look like money if helping you out too much." He said nothing...

FMX, I pay my weekly installment to the Arizona lottery, and I'm going to win it in 10-15 years, so I can retire. (ha ha) One of the things I am not looking forward to is the new set of friends that will show up, so I have decided to keep it a secret. :-)

The truth is, I've had a lot more property and security in my life, and been extremely miserable .....so now I make people the most important thing, and surround myself with the loving, supportive, and positive type. It's working quite well for me!

Got fired from First Interstate Bank when I was 38. Best thing that ever happened to me. The past twenty years of building my own business has been a lot of work but an incredible journey full of blessing and lots of fun. It's still work, but I'd never go back to work for some one else..

Good luck and keep up informed of your venture!

    Regards,
    Glenn

I want to get out of the Air Force so bad but I see all the time that people are losing their job, people going bankrupt because they don't have a job...etc. I am not happy with what I do but I have a great and loving wife, nice house, nice vehicles, and a few toys, and if it wasn't for the Air Force I would not have any of this. I am coming up on my five year mark and am debating on getting out or not. Some days I will say I hate this sh!t and some days I think it’s not so bad. You have to deal with a BUNCH of stupid stuff being in the military like; we have to fill out a form and go see the commander just because I want to run my truck at the drag strip. It’s just little stuff like that. Just the other day I was supposed to fill out a form 410. It a form for extreme and dangerous sports, just to ride my ATV. My supervisor had enough nerve to tell me not to ride it this weekend because I don’t have a form 410. I told her I was not going to just let it collect dust in my garage and you can’t tell me what I can and can’t do while not on duty...but they can. I just don't know if I wanna get out or not just yet...the pay is not great but it’s ok.

1983Prostreet, it is all up to you on this... Just remember, every job will have it's ups and down's. I know VERY VERY few people who own their own businesses or work for someone and just absolutely LOVE their job and every thing about it. That's rare but can be done so dont let anyone tell you it cant. You have to just think it through and do what you can. If you cannot stand it anymore then get out and look for something else. Everyone is watching too much TV and blowing things out of proportion with the economy. It's bad right now, yes but it's not the end of the world. The way I look at it is, I am not the only one without a job and one day everything will be back to normal and on my feet again. It's out of my control and has already been done, no reason to cry or complain about it, just move on. No matter what you do you will have to sacrafice certain things no matter when you work. Sure you may have to fill out stupid forms to do something like ride an ATV but the only reason is because you work for the government and if something happens to you and you get hurt then you are no good to them because you might be in a wheelchair or even worse.

FMZhellraiser, You have the right attitude.

    1983 prostreet,
I can see what you mean, I wanted to get out when I was in the Army but there is not too many days that go by that I don’t have a flash back to all of the good times when I was in. I can remember one time I got sunburned really bad, I went to the beach with a girl friend cloudy day but the sun was behind the clouds. My First Sergeant seen me in the latrine, he said to me “if you go to sick call I’ll give you an article 15”. I said you got to be kidding, he said for "destroying Government property". I didn’t try to get help I just suffered it out. My nephew is getting close to retiring from the Army, my niece’s husband has 12 years in he is going for 20. The time goes so fast looking back but if you could stay you would be guaranteed a check each month and you could start another career. By the time you get out times may be better but at least now you would have health care for you, and your family for another 15 years if you decide to stay in. Good luck with your decision.

HOTRODPAINT said it right. I think we all think we would like to have more money but sometimes money brings stress, worries, and sometimes strife with family.

I'm satisfied if I can just pay my bills, live a modest life style, I don't need much, just a few hot rods, and customs.

I sure do feel for you guys getting laid off, but I am hearing the right attitude and your grabbing the bull by the horns .Many people on this site are skilled enough to earn their own bread if pushed to it. I also agree with your modest idea of money, our preacher just touched on this last week. Let us have have enough money to meet our daily needs, not too much that we would forget him and where it comes from, or not enough that we would be tempted to steal.

Money also brings greed. Remember that one. 53 Chevy5, our pastor has talked about this before as well and it's all true. When I first heard it a few years back I thought "what a bunch of bull", but now as I get older and pay more attention to people around me and learning "business" and hanging around big business people, I see that money brings stress and family problems (divorce).

Sorry to hear you got laid off, but glad to hear you have a plan and will be fine. I too will chime in that when I was poorist, I had such an easy life and few worries. Now that we are doing well financially, I take things way to seriously. I remember buying a 72 honda 750 for 400 bucks, and driving to Montana to work in Glacier Park for the summer! What a blast, 50 bucks to my name, open highway to a beautiful place. Never worried about the next day! Spent my first thirty two years that way, then I went back to school and got a degree. Haven't been nearly as happy since!
