do you realize
do you realize what just happened this was huge power grab the epa has taken the power to set c.a.f.e. standards away from the electorate. I don't think you realize how this effects hot rodders and racers and all of this effects all energy sources gasoline and electric they can with the stroke of pen limit the amount of any fuel you can purchase and there can be no discussion no congressional vote no veto this arrogant attitude of the people be damned is prevalent now try this on for size the epa dictates cafe stds. of 50 mpg and determines that people should be limited to 12000 miles per year they think you should use public transportation so you can apply for a gas card and if approved you git a card with a magnetic strip that you have to swipe at the gas pump like a credit card you are limited to 20 gals per month after that you pay a sur charge of say $4.00 per gal. try that in your hemi or big block see how far you get.the real problem is you can call all the congressmen you want they can't do a thing it was directed by the director of the epa a cabinet post appointed by the president. bill you want to shut down this thread because you think its political I guess you have that power. and we can all stick our heads in the sand with our butt' in the air....tedI'LL KEEP MY PROPERTY, MY MONEY, MY FREEDOM, AND MY GUNS, AND YOU CAN KEEP THE CHANGE------ THE PROBLEM WITH LIBERALISM IS SOONER OR LATER YOU RUN OUT OF OTHER PEOPLES MONEY margaret thacher 1984

Not simply because of the situation you have posted, but I honestly believe our days are numbered..........better enjoy our cars now. Too many reasons for "those in charge" to make it impossible for us to license or drive them.......... environmental, safety, depletion of fuel supplies, etc. And I'm not saying it is just the current administration (who I personally like) but elected officials on State and Federal levels who look at us and say "that can't be good for us!"
Build'em while you can guys.............I bet 10-20 years from now we are all driving around in little econoboxes powered by electric motors.

Is this where we are going? We all have our rights to remain silent or anything we say or do with our hot rods can and will be used against us.

Ted,
Actually in your case (being in a state that feels they know what is best for the rest of the country and expects everyone to conform to their rules/regulations/laws) this is a blessing in disguise for more reasons than I am willing to print on a public access form. I'll leave it at that for now and will only say, Da Bunnies(tm) will be watching ...................

If we all figure out how to get 425HP out of a washing machine motor, they'll just up our electric bill because we keep 'em plugged in, charging the batteries all the time. We're in trouble no matter what we do at this point.

CAFE standards apply to manufactureres, don't they???? Something like Corporate Average Fuel Economy???? Guess I don't see where this pertains to Hot Rods, and where the gas ration cards come in.... Wikpedia has a little about it;
Historically EPA has encouraged consumers to buy more fuel efficient vehicles while NHTSA expresses concerns that smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles may lead to increased traffic fatalities. [6] [7]
If the average fuel economy of a manufacturer's annual fleet of car and/or truck production falls below the defined standard, the manufacturer must pay a penalty, currently $5.50 USD per 0.1 mpg under the standard, multiplied by the manufacturer's total production for the U.S. domestic market. Historically, higher fuel efficiency was associated with lower traffic safety, intertwining the issues of fuel economy, road-traffic safety, air pollution, and climate change. In the mid 2000s, increasing safety of smaller cars and poor safety history of light trucks began to reverse this association.
Curious where some of this "information" comes from??? Any kind of reliable source or just some BS that somebody makes up???? Haven't seen a thing in the Congressional Digest the last few years concerning fuel rationing.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Guess I still don't see anything now or coming in the near or not so near future where Hot Rods will have to meet cafe standards. Other then some SEMA induced legislation that will actually help Hot Rodding, haven't seen anything pending against us..... Seems like the extreme elements like to come up with some of this wild stuff just to see how many folks that can get agitated or something...... If your state government is that far gone from reality, maybe it's time the sensible folks took over at election time and sent them home....?????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Call me blind. I see an economic crisis, some racial issues still, and a government that has gotten ineffiecient, too big, and too expensive but I don't see any sort of apocolyptic event coming that man creates.... Just a bunch of way out their types on the fringes who for whatever reasons seem to WANT something terrible to take place.... Just exactly what is the looming crisis, and where is the irrefutable evidence??? What I do see is a whole lot of people who don't like the way the government operates and can't seem to understand that the only way to fix it is at the voting box!!!!!!!
Does this happen (whatever it is) before or after we all get those little chips in our arms so the CIA knows where we are every minute of every day????? or, if you buy into the Nostradamus series of coincidence and very, very loose intepretation of events, the world ends in 3 years anyway, so why worry about it????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
