This guy is serious?
Here is an ad for info to convert three phase motors to run on single phase. There are at least 100,000 errors in the first page....this guy must be joking with his electrical explanation! Read it and laugh.

Actualy what he says is true. You can drive a 3ph mtr with a single phase mtr and it will generate 3ph. You can run a 3 ph mtr on single phase by powering it on two legs and turning the mtr by hand to start it if you read voltage on the third leg and the other two you will see you have 3 ph. It dose work I have done it .Problem!!! It is not cheap power. Any 3 ph mtr with brushes is just a 3ph generator when driven be it by single phase or a gas engine.Charlie

Agreed, you can do such. However, the comical part is how he describes electricity. This entire paragraph is a hoot!
Single Phase Electricity is the type of electricity that runs to all homes. It is commonly known as 220. It is called 220 because there are two power wires coming from the pole into your home that each carry 110 volts (110+110=220). Each of these 110 wires are in opposite Phases. Phases may sound a little difficult to understand at first but it is actually a pretty simple. The "AC" in 220vAC stands for "ALTERNATING CURRENT" and it does just that, Alternates. It Alternates from + to - at a rate of 60 times per second known as 60hertz. This Principle can be understood easiest by thinking of it like a 2 cyclinder gasoline engine. When one piston is at the bottom(-) the other piston is at the top(+). It stays in balance this way. 3Phase Electricity is like a 3 cyclinder motor; when one piston is at the top and the 2nd is at the bottom the third is in the middle.

To further muddle the explanation: House power is not two phase. It is single phase with a center tap on the transformer..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

Electrical service to most homes is comprised of two legs of 110 voltage 180* out of phase. 3 phase, either delta or y, is usually 120 volts with each leg being 120* out of phase.Ken Thomas
