    A Fun Week End

Last week was our annual car club get together with two other clubs. We all meet in San Luis Obispo. The Bay Area Roadsters (San Francisco), the California Roadsters (Southern California) and the San Luis Obispo Roadsters. The cars are the catalyst for some great friendships. I really look forward to this every year. The host this year was the San Luis Obispo club, and what a great job they did.
The complete weekend is kept confidential. We arrive on Thursday after noon, it's about a 6 hour ride for our club, it's only 230 miles but by the time we meet in the morning and stop for lunch and gas up 2 or 3 times it takes 6 hours. Thursday night there is a street festival, we all go down town and have BBQ something and walk around and just visit.
Friday the real activity's begin. We have breakfast at the motel and are given a schedule for the day. It says be gassed up and ready to roll at 9:45 am. It's pretty cool seeing 41 roadsters blazing down the highway. Our first stop is a beautiful winery about 30 miles out. Some wine tasting and socializing. Next stop is at a private airplane collection, he restores airplanes from WW1, and also collects and restores airplane engines, also has a nice hot rod collection. We had a nice lunch and more BS sessions.
We left there and rode around the country side and just goofed off, beautiful country, lots of winery's. (I don't drink, but enjoy the work that is put into some of these places).
We all met back at the motel by 6 for a pizza dinner, and more BS sessions, getting caught up on the past years events.
Saturday same thing at breakfast we got out slip of paper, be ready 10:00.
We were off again, this time to a private collector's house. A garage like no other, I have seen. Really nice guy, what ever he did for work he did it very well!
Off again to a small petroleum company that has a small museum. A collection of old tools, oil cans, and cars. Some really nice stuff, another BBQ. One of the neat things here was we got to meet a 91 year old gentleman that worked for Ford for many years. While he worked there he was asked to drive a new 1958 Ford around the world for promotional reasons and was given a film crew and the whole thing was documented. What a story and we got to see the DVD.
Then off we went to another private car collection. There were 23 street rods there one nicer than the next. I remember seeing some of these in different car magazines, some great stories behind a lot of them.
Back to the motel for dinner and more BS.
Up Sunday breakfast with everyone, our good bye's and on the road. We went a total of 740 miles. Can't wait for next year.
