A Fun Week End
Last week was our annual car club get together with two other clubs. We all meet in San Luis Obispo. The Bay Area Roadsters (San Francisco), the California Roadsters (Southern California) and the San Luis Obispo Roadsters. The cars are the catalyst for some great friendships. I really look forward to this every year. The host this year was the San Luis Obispo club, and what a great job they did.
The complete weekend is kept confidential. We arrive on Thursday after noon, it's about a 6 hour ride for our club, it's only 230 miles but by the time we meet in the morning and stop for lunch and gas up 2 or 3 times it takes 6 hours. Thursday night there is a street festival, we all go down town and have BBQ something and walk around and just visit.
Friday the real activity's begin. We have breakfast at the motel and are given a schedule for the day. It says be gassed up and ready to roll at 9:45 am. It's pretty cool seeing 41 roadsters blazing down the highway. Our first stop is a beautiful winery about 30 miles out. Some wine tasting and socializing. Next stop is at a private airplane collection, he restores airplanes from WW1, and also collects and restores airplane engines, also has a nice hot rod collection. We had a nice lunch and more BS sessions.
We left there and rode around the country side and just goofed off, beautiful country, lots of winery's. (I don't drink, but enjoy the work that is put into some of these places).
We all met back at the motel by 6 for a pizza dinner, and more BS sessions, getting caught up on the past years events.
Saturday same thing at breakfast we got out slip of paper, be ready 10:00.
We were off again, this time to a private collector's house. A garage like no other, I have seen. Really nice guy, what ever he did for work he did it very well!
Off again to a small petroleum company that has a small museum. A collection of old tools, oil cans, and cars. Some really nice stuff, another BBQ. One of the neat things here was we got to meet a 91 year old gentleman that worked for Ford for many years. While he worked there he was asked to drive a new 1958 Ford around the world for promotional reasons and was given a film crew and the whole thing was documented. What a story and we got to see the DVD.
Then off we went to another private car collection. There were 23 street rods there one nicer than the next. I remember seeing some of these in different car magazines, some great stories behind a lot of them.
Back to the motel for dinner and more BS.
Up Sunday breakfast with everyone, our good bye's and on the road. We went a total of 740 miles. Can't wait for next year.

Wow, do I envy you for being so close to such a beautiful area and being able to go to events like that. That is the type of weekend roadsters were made for.
That black 29 pulling in on the one photo, is that Bud Brennens, or Brian Brennens (I forget his exact name..........CRS Sydrome , ) It looks like the one that Rod and Custom did that build up series on back in the 70's that was based on what traditional rods were from an earlier era. If so, I always loved that car and followed every monthly installment.
Glad to see you and the family got to do something that you look forward so much to each year............and those collections!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing, do you have any more pictures?

Ken looks like one heck of a fine weekend with perfect cruising weather. I'd love to see just the airplane collection alone! The other cars featured were fantastic too. Glad to hear your taking time off for some fun!Last edited by stovens; 05-21-2009 at 10:51 AM.

Very nice, 430 miles in a roadster! I do not think my wife would ever hold still for a trip like that. She calls ours our "in town car". Thanks for taking the time to post the story. EddGod, guns, cars and 1 wife, I would say I have it all.

Ken, thanks for posting the pics of your trip. That looks like a cruise that I would certainly love to go on. Love those old planes especially the biplanes. I used to fly in one when I was a kid. One of the neighbors had one that he used for dusting. Scared the crap out of me more than once.
As usual another one of your little trips that turn people green with envy.Bob
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail....but a true friend will be sitting next to you saying..."Damn....that was fun!

hotroddaddy-The car hauler had the detail of any of the best street rods, the guy that owned all these wasn't there, I sure would of like to talk to him.
Don- It's not Brian's, but I will find out for you if it's that car. I'm at home but Tuesday when I go to work I'll post a couple more I think would be interesting.
Stovens- Thanks Steve it couldn't of been better. Those fighter planes inside the hanger were France fighters, you can see the guns mounted on top of the fuselage.
uppster- Thanks, she is a trooper. Your welcome Edd, I'm glad you enjoyed them, I'll post a couple more.
35fordcoupe-It's times like that week end that memories are made for sure.
mopar34- Your welcome, glad you enjoyed them. I haven't had the chance to ride in one but I sure would jump at the chance.

vara4, Da34guy- I agree, I could of stayed there all day. I would like to watch those guys build a new one.
Here are a few more. The first set is a pretty cool model A 4 cylinder. I never heard a 4 cylinder sound like this one, more like a Indy car.
The next two are of a car Andy Brizzio lent a movie studio and they wrecked it. That's Roy looking at the car it happened too.
Next is the Revelle Speed wagon car. Nice stuff.

Getting closer on this project. What a lot of work!
