That comment is pathetic. You don't have to care, but it would have been easier to keep your ignorant mouth shut. Don't respond any more, you have tainted this entire thread. You've just shown disrespect to someone that is highly regarded around here.
Don, I'm sorry. I (as most of us do) understand how you feel.

Sorry, Don. We (most of us, anyhow) know how you feel; our furry kids are just as much a part of our lives as our human kin. We have three elderly one with us just now, and I'm always worrying about them. I have a bunch of buddy's gone on and waiting for me at The Rainbow Bridge.Rrumbler, Aka: Hey you, "Old School", Hairy, and other unsavory monickers.
Twistin' and bangin' on stuff for about sixty or so years; beat up and busted, but not entirely dead - yet.

Sorry to hear about your cat Don.. kinda reminded me that my cat is getting older (14 ), he has a 1 of a kind personallity, smart, often acts like a dog, tries to help me with things.. it's too bad they can't outlast us.. and you can't just get a new 1 because each and every 1 is diffrent and it's those diffrences that you'll always rememberYou don't know what you've got til it's gone

Thank you to all of you who understand the relationship between our pets and us. It isn't anything that can be explained, you either get it or you don't. As we who do love them know, our lives are made so much better by simply having them around. They ask nothing more than a bowl of food, water, and an occasional pat on the head or a chance to lay on our laps. When we get home they are there waiting patiently, and go out of their way to make us laugh and smile.
We also know that each one is very different from all others, the absolutely have a distinct personality, and the longer we live together the more we become like them and they like us. We adapt very well to each other.
In the meantime, I still have 3 at home and 4 or 5 at the shop who are depending on us every night to put out some food and water, so I am not going to go out and get another one. If I do I am going to have to get a part time job just to pay for their upkeep.
Again friends, thank you for your condolences and sharing your pet stories. They helped immensely.

Sorry Don, it ain't easy. Our best buddy Gemini, a 14 year old Shepherd mix, is sleeping more now and we figure the end is in sight. She has lost most of her sight, so taking her on her nightly one hour walk requires watching her closely. Just getting her ready for the walk, putting on her harness is a hoot in itself. She starts to jump around and howl like a wolf baying at the moon in anticipation of going to the park across the street. It makes me laugh out loud every time. She's also the best watchdog we've ever had. When those kids come around putting door-hangers on the door knob, you'd think she was a 400 lb man-eater.
It's gonna be tough.

Nothings feels worse than making a decision to have one of your best friends put down except when someone steels your best friend ...... ala my Scotty dog of 7 yrs.
Although I'm not a "feline guy" I am a pet lover, of all types, and feel your pain.
Time heals all wounds ....... visible or not.
My heartfelt thoughts go out to you Don.
Some people just don't get it ... and never will.

Thanks Paul, and that must have been really bad having your dog stolen. That's about as low as you can go to do something like that.
Pat, I understand Pugs are a great breed, very family oriented.
Thanks Stovebolter and Bobby.
Like I said, we still have 3 at home. They are technically Dan's cats, but they see more of me than Dan because of his schedule, so we are really best buds.
The black and white one is Chewy, he is our resident bad cat. Always into something and only sleeps like half as much as a cat should.
Lucky is the one Dan found at a traffic light a couple of years ago. He was a little kitten and crossed traffic and crawled up into the wheel of a stopped car. Dan got out of his car and climbed underneath and extracted him. That is why we call him Lucky. If the light had changed he would have been killed for sure. Turns out he doesn't have a mean bone in his body and is Chewy's pal. Just a big Teddy Bear who loves to nap with me.
Finally, the multi colored cat is Alto. She is Dans original cat and is about 14 or 15 years old. Funniest cat ever. If you are petting her and stop she nips you, just enough to let you know you aren't done.
Can't imagine what the house would be like without them around.

Wow Don, I just got through reading this thread. My heart goes out to you. It choked me up just reading everyones stories. Got a few tears thinking of our Lab we put to sleep a few years ago.
These little crittles get under our skin! They become family and fathfull friends. Being the decission maker is a tuff repsonsibility. I'm glad you had so many years to share with your cats, and I'm sure they were happy you adopted them. Here's a picture to cheer you up. Pretzel just does it with his eyes!

Getting closer on this project. What a lot of work!
