I'm sorry to hear. Pets are such a big part of our lives. I had 2 Scotties and they were always there helping me with the 'stangs. Then I had a Cocker and he loved riding along. It's such a help when you are laying on your back working on something and hitting your arm or the like, and they come over and decide you need a kiss. . . .It's Just a Car!
It takes a real MAN to build a hotrod - and not use chevy power!!?

Hope this is ok! It makes me laugh! I can't tell from Tiva's look if she's disgusted with Pretzel or happy! This was one of those pictures you try to get while they are both looking at the camera, and then boom one does something crazy! If it is offensive, please let me know and I'll remove it.

Apology accepted. I wasn't exactly in the best mood at that moment, and your comment caught me the wrong way.
While I realize this forum is primarily centered around things with wheels, I also feel very comfortable sharing my good times and my not so good times with my friends on here. Many of us have felt the need to tell the others here about a birth, a death, job losses, health issues, and all the other things that happen in everyones life from time to time. This was one of those times I needed to talk.
And I understand how some may not share the closeness to simple animals that others do, we are all different. I knew going into the thread that a percentage of people would feel I was a complete idiot for shedding tears over an old cat. But I also knew a good portion on here would completely understand and had experienced the same heartbreak I am going through right now. She was my friend for 17 long years and never did anything in that entire time but remain loyal and loving.
It has been great to hear the stories and see the pictures of others pets. Makes us realize that although we are all different in many respects we are also very much alike in others.

These people were at the car show today, trying to find a good home for these ex racers. It was a sight to see.

My condolences, Don. It's amazing how these little creatures get into our hearts.
Here are a few pics of our current family members. The first is "Itty" when he came to us almost 9 years ago. He was less than two handfulls. The second is Itty now; he is a huge cat of 23 pounds. Fortunately, he is very gentle natured; a cat that big could be dangerous if he was mean.
The last pic is "Guff" a couple of years ago when he was in good health. He was always a physically small cat, but with a huge ego. He is 14 years old now and in poor health. We have him on medication for thyroid problems, but he also has some sort of bowel obstruction. I'm afraid that we will be facing the same thing you just went through pretty soon...Jim

What a collection of great looking pets. I would urge anyone who hasn't done it to adopt one from your local shelter. Your life will be so much better for doing so. The only problem with going there is that you will want to take all of them home with you. But even saving one little life is terrific.
As long as we are posting pictues, here are a couple of Lucky the day Dan found him under that car. The original plan was to keep him til Monday and take him to the Rescue Center, but we couldn't part with him after having him for two days. Plus that darn Bob Parmenter had to chime in and suggest we keep him! (Thanks Bob)

Steve, we were at the booth with the Greyhounds for 20 minutes or so, and not one of the 5 Dogs let out the slightest whimper. The black one went over to my wife to be petted, and just stood still. I thought she would take it home but with the 17 Cats she takes care of it would be too much. They were around 5 years old; still have with some good years left to go to a good home.

Don, whenever I mention you in conversation about something you said or are doing, my wife says who? I say you know the guy with the blue-eyed Cat. Those are really a pretty shade of blue. I said to my wife this morning the color blue is close to the blue on the Merc.

Don, I read your e-mail and the other comments here and now I find myself in the same situation.
My Wifes cat Abbey will be put down on Tuesday after being with us for 16 years. She recently developed tumors and they are growing rapidly and creating other problems. So, for her sake, my wife decided to put her down before she gets too sick.
Abbey was my wifes cat and really didn't like me except for the past year. We had another cat named Friday that was the whole families cat. Friday got sick last year and had to be put down and Abbey came alive. She and I became friends in this past year. I couldn't sit down without her wanting to be by me. In her other 15 years, I would walk into the room and she would leave. She was a special cat that too, would want to be with me in the shop checking out my work - She was also deaf but managed quite well.
We have a dog... too that is failing but I'm hoping that she will hang on for a while to fill the void of losing abbey.

Oh God, I feel so sorry for you and your wife. I can't tell you how hard it was for me to say those words to the Vet. I kind of mumbled them and he said "I need you to tell me in no uncertain terms so I am sure of your intentions." It was like I was making the hardest decision a person could ever make. I just kept thinking that maybe someday I would wake up and they would have died in their sleep, but I didn't get off that easy. I know people have had to make more serious decisions in life about a human loved one, and a pet in no way compares to the loss they must feel, but it still leaves an empty spot in your life and your heart.
My heart goes out to you and my thoughts will be with you tomorrow. I guess we have to take some comfort in the fact we gave them the very best life we could for so many years.........lots of other animals never get that opportunity.

Don,we are all soft when it comes to our furry family,my wife and I dont have kids,so our cats have always been our family.Several years ago[fifteen actually],I took my 12year old German Shepherd to the vet,as he was getting ill,and I didnt like seeing the old boy going down hill as quick as he was...Boy,what a day that was,,10 days before Christmas,,wont forget that in a long while,.
We now have cats, two tabbies, both with attitudes,or,as we call it,CATTITUDES,the older one is 13 now, still likes to thump the younger one,[8]and waits at the bottom of the drive every day for my wife to come home from work,so she can get a ride up the drive in the car, saves her walking I guess..Still considering another dog,but we will always have a cat or two or three about the house,,cant really live without them, can we??

CATTITUDES... How appropriate! There is a saying that "dogs have owners, cats have staff." There is some truth in that, I think. One thing for sure, cats all have very individual personalities.Jim

Yes,Jim,I have heard that saying,,how true it is.I have a bad cold today,so have decided to stay inside for the day, stayed in bed for an extra hour, had a cat each side of me until I got up..great way to keep warm.
Now that I am up and about, they have abandoned me for other pursuits..Typical..Micah 6:8

Letterman used to make up words called sniglets...Caltitude - the lifting of a cats rear quarters up in the air while purring!
Sorry to hear of more cat and dog troubles here. Putting a pet to sleep is probably one of the hardest things any of us has to face! My thoughts are with you both!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
